Once again, police almost stop school shooting. Nine dead.

A vocational college student in Finland, named Matti Juhani Saari, has murdered nine people at the college he attends in Kauhajoki. He nearly botched his own suicide but is not dead in hospital. He was a licensed gun owner, who recently posted video of himself firing his gun on the internet. Police actually looked at him but decided they could nto revoke his permit. Ooops. Details.

More like this

Sometimes, a person shows up at a gun range, checks out a gun ostensibly to use in target practice on the range, but instead uses the gun to commit suicide. In one case not long ago, a woman brought her teenage son to the range, and checked out two pistols. They took turn shooting for a while, then…
After Lott claimed that biased news coverage of the shootings at the Appalachian School of Law deliberately omitted a defensive gun use, I did my own analysis of the news stories and found that the alleged bias was the product of Lott's flawed counting methodology. Lott…
Ever since late June, I've been intermittently taking note of a new conspiracy theory in the alternative medicine world. It began when notorious autism quack Jeff Bradstreet, one of the longest practicing, most prominent purveyors of the scientifically discredited notion that vaccines cause autism…
On September 11th, 2008 Meleanie Hain went to her child's soccer game with a Glock pistol in a holster strapped to her hip. This was in the vicinity of Lebanon, Pennsylvania. To her and presumably others, it may have been an act of patriotism. I suspect it was an explicitly anti-Obama act given…

but is not dead in hospital

That is no longer true. He has died in hospital.

Death toll to 11 now. It appears the gun man had started a fire as well. Some are so badly burnt they are still waiting on identification.

I'm willing to bet some serious warning signs were ignored beforehand if this guy is as serious a gun nut as he appeared to be.

According to teachers and school friends he was an ordinary, sociable young man. There were warning signs online, but they weren't "ignored" since the police went and checked the guy out.

This case is extremely similar to the Finnish school shooting from last year. If the shooters were serious gun nuts, emphasis is on the 'nut', not the 'gun'. Both shooters used their first and only gun, a .22 caliber training pistol.
