The Corporation

Have you ever watched the documentary The Corporation? If not, you must.

It is now available on YouTube and everywhere else, but as an experiment, I've embedded the Hulu version of it here:

Have you seen The Corporation? It is an excellent documentary that runs through the list of psychiatric disorders that seem to be endemic to corporations. It came out in 2004, but is still very relevant. If you've not seen it, you should. The film has a website, here. In some countries you can…
Over at the Experimental Philosophy blog, Joshua Knobe has a post about a series of experiments that he has run with Jesse Prinz on people's intuitions about consciousness, and he includes a link to a draft of the paper they're writing on the experiments. The experiments were motivated by two…
PZ Myers has this to say about the YouTube video of our "Speaking Science 2.0" talk: I tried to watch that video. I even made it to the 20 minute mark before I gave up. Please, oh please, I need some substance in order to keep me going through an hour-long lecture. I'm going to try not to get…
Obama has finally gotten around to choosing a replacement for Larry Summers, and named Gene Sperling director of the National Economic Council (why he didn't prioritize this with nearly 10% U3 unemployment is puzzling). This has been controversial since Gene Sperling, like many of Obama's closest…

There aren't many political arguments where it is worth turning the potentially high information content of text and graphics into the low information content typically found in film. Film is for other purposes, where the visual matters. I also haven't watched An Inconvenient Truth or Capitalism: A Love Story. I did watch Sicko, and while it contains a couple of good points, it frankly wasn't worth sitting through.

And if efficiency of transmitting information was the point, you would have a point!

Greg is recommending it for its entertainment value?

There are things other than efficient transmission of information and entertainment. An example might be, almost all effective learning that happens. So, I reject your false contrast and I do not assume that Dr. Laden is suggesting this film for entertainment. Though it is entertaining.

I say this as one who watched it more than once, including in a classroom of a great instructor who understood the value of a documentary such as this one.

For me, this ranks up there with The Power of Nightmares. Great programs.

Great 2+ hour presentation on what corporations get away with here and around the world.

Stuff I've pretty much known for some time. But here is what I propose as a first step in getting back the power reserve to the people.

Modify the 14th Amendment to include the phrase "Such rights enumerated in the Constitution and its Amendments do not apply to inanimate entities."

That would correct the mistake that we've endured for the last 150 years.

Fail: "Express Install is not supported on this operating system."

Which is actually a good thing, because every time I upgrade Flash it breaks.
