No, emails you send me are NOT private

I have an ex facebook friend with no sense of proportion, no sense of humor, and very little sense of her own lack of importance. We disagreed on guns. She wants unfettered gun ownership. We disagree, apparently, on anthropogenic global warming. She thinks its made up. I don't. And now, she wants the whole world to know that I treated her badly, and she will do so by posting a screen shot of our last interaction on facebook "everywhere she can"

Well, I'd like to help with that:

First, her name on Facebook is Gwenny Todd, if you'd like to friend her or verify any of this with her. Second, here is the obnoxious email she sent me:

Hey Greg,

You know, decades ago on Holysmoke I had a long running vendetta with an unemployed, disabled fundy radio guy living in a trailer from near where you are. (ie, the lower intestinal tract of the United States) Jim Staal. I pissed him off so bad that he finally said I deserved to be beaten by my husband. You can google "Gwenny the Pooh" and "Jim Staal" and probably still find bits of the conversation. You know the ONLY difference between the two of you? He's my friend on Facebook.

Here's a little screenshot for you. I'm putting it every where I can.
:D

Third, here's the graphic showing her sign off and me telling her to get bent. What you don't see here is the other conversation, the one she actually went of in a huff about. (I assume, because the graphic is of a thread that refers to someone else's blog post.)

The drama, the drama!!!! The internet was getting so dull this afternoon, I'm glad to have the drama back.

In the above email, note the phrase "I had a long running vendetta with..." What is the meaning of that? Do people have vendettas with each other? I thought, usually, one person would have a vendetta against another. Later in the very same email, Gwenny The Pooh notes that she is posting her graphic everywhere she can. So, I guess that means the vendetta is against me.

How about that. A gun nut and an AGW denialist. Not liking me. Will wonders never cease?!

That girl needs to adjust her meds.

Oh, well, if she wants everyone to know about this, I should probably post her parting shot on the other thread.

Greg: "It hasn't really been tried. "

 Hasn't been tried? China, the UK, Australia . . .they all have draconian gun laws. In Australia they registered all the guns and then made everyone turn their guns in and destroyed them decades ago. And, yet, there was a shooting a couple of weeks ago. And a huge riot where white people came armed with aluminum ball bats to teach the brown people a lesson.

And you know . . I have better things to do than argue about this. For whatever reason, some folks are just totally invested in the idea that you can treat symptoms and cure the problem. As far as I can tell, there's no difference between arguing with gun control/global warming believers and believers in gods. :sigh:

Minneapolis is the lower GI tract of the US? Go fuck yourself, Gwenny.

CPP: You are just sore because nobody will be your facebook friend.

hmmmm....so disagreeing with her via email/facebook reminds her of her ex?

Man! That guy must have been a real jerk!

Sorry, "ex" should have been "guy who thought you deserved to be beaten by your ex"

First ex. Not second ex. Had you checked with Google you would know.

Dude, grow the fuck up.

Ahem...

Facebook is for fucking children and politicians.

I take it you speak from experience?

And, wow, it's been over a year since I had a "friend" break it off in such a spectacularly off-the-meds style.

I mean, I've broken off a friendship over political disagreements too, but 1) there was considerably more justification (I am talking about someone who literally advocated genocide as a rational and proportionate response to the 9/11 attacks but condemned premarital sex on the basis of "morality," and who, when backed into the corner on her Ann Coulter Fangirl routine by the observation that Coulter had stated that women shouldn't be allowed to vote, agreed with that position rather than contradict the party line) and 2) I allowed the conversations to taper off and eventually neglected to inform her when I changed screen names rather than lashing out publicly.

So, yeah, your crazy ex-friend, if she's crazy enough to follow up on it, can come here and see that she reminds me of someone who advocates genocide.

Hmmm...Checking the stats: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_…

Rate in the US: 5.4 per 100,000 (2008)
Rate in Australia: 1.2 per 100,000 (2008)
Rate in the UK: 1.5 per 100,000 (2008)
Rate in China: 2.4 per 100,000 (2006)

It looks quite a bit safer in all of the mentioned countries with draconian gun laws than in the US with it's 'wild west' approach to to gun laws. I'm not sure I trust China's numbers, but they are what we have to work with.

China, the UK, Australia . . .they all have draconian gun laws.

If you mean by draconian, that guns need to be registered and you need a valid reason to own one, then yes they are draconian. ('valid' reasons include being a member of a gun club, hunting, vermin control etc. - self protection is not a valid reason.)

In Australia they registered all the guns and then made everyone turn their guns in and destroyed them decades ago.

Not quite. In 2007 5.2% of Australian adults owned one or more guns. ("Licensees and Registered Firearms in Australia(SSAA report)"). Compare this to 30% of US households having one or more guns, which is likely to translate to a significantly lower percent of US adults owning a gun.

And, yet, there was a shooting a couple of weeks ago.

With all those guns (including the 1500 or so guns stolen annually) there is bound to be the odd shooting. As pointed out above the rate of shooting homicides is much lower than many other places. The rate of accidental shootings is also much much lower.

And a huge riot where white people came armed with aluminum ball bats to teach the brown people a lesson.

I missed much of the exchange but this does seem to be a bit of a non-sequitur. In any case one can control guns, but it is much more difficult to control stupidity.

Have you never had your eyes burned by myspace? Or is that what comes out as a result of the enema?

For whatever reason, some folks are just totally invested in the idea that you can treat symptoms and cure the problem.

The "problem" - human violence, stupidity, and aggression - can't be "cured". All that can be done is ongoing management of the condition. That's what gun control is about.

Facebook is only a tool, CPP&R. The fact that some of the people who use it are also tools is irrelevant.

Hey, I'm sure even some of the esteemed commenters on this site are tools, too. No names, no pack drill. ;-)
