Peeps noun (sing.; peep): (1) short, soft, high pitched sounds or utterances, like those of a baby bird; chirps. (2) A shortened colloquial term for "people", referring to those people who live in one's neighborhood, now often denotes people with whom one is familiar and fond of; friends. (3) A colloquial term used by birdwatchers to describe small North American shorebirds, usually when they form a group comprised of a variety of species; sandpipers. Sometimes erroneously applied to any small brown bird species that is difficult for the observer to identify. (4) Product name for soft marshmallow candies formed into the shape of a chick (originally yellow in color, but now occur every color of the rainbow, thanks to market evolution that promotes racial and cultural equality). Peeps are used to fill easter baskets but are also used in recreational and other social events. They are made from marshmallow, sugar, gelatin, and carnauba. Marshmallow Peeps are often subjected to terrible tortures by evil humans around easter time.
And while I am on this delicate topic of peeps, I have a special surprise for you, my peeps;
PEEPSTEROIDS! and PEEP INVADERS! these are the best, hottest, funnest online games ever invented! And when you are finished with the game, in a true "take no prisoners" style of warfare, you can eat the survivors and make even your dentist happy!
In fact, wouldn't it be fun to have a peepsteroids/peep invaders tournament after we all have had a chance to practice playing these games for a week or so ..

I actually prefer to use the term "peops", so as to distinguish between "those who gotz mah back, yo" and "those disgusting plasticine Easter candy things".
Hey GrrlScientist,
Check out what some people do to peeps!
I don't think the IRB approved any of these experiments.
Ok. so I had to go to wikipedia and see their definition. It WAS all about food.
I really like this post. I love peeps!
ah, sandra, are you trying to ruin my easter issue of Birds in the News??
Oh, no! of course not. : (
Speaking of birds in the news, though, it's blue heron mating season here in Seattle. There are about 20 some birds cruising around the Ballard Locks and weird, weird sounds coming from the woods.
I wonder if a heron would think peeps are edible?
Here's a recipe for home-made peeps:
