It's All Europe -- Who Woulda Thunk It?

After two really hot games today, I wonder how long has it been since the World Cup has consisted exclusively of European teams? What happened to Brasil? Over the past few days, I was warned that "if any team can beat Brasil, it's the French team", but no one said anything about the possibility that the French might dominate Brasil.

The referees for the World Cup games are truly ridiculous. They are not doing their job very well because they have consistently missed making important penalty calls, such that some of the games have gotten out-of-control at times. One especially unpleasant example was today's Nederlands-…
Wow, what a tournament. A day after the US loss and I'm flabbergasted by the attention that the US team is getting. Soccer mania is spreading in the US, and I'm happy for it. It might be that unlike other areas (the Olympics, military might, world economic supremacy) soccer is hard. It's the…
I am sitting in my usual free-wifi watering hole in Manhattan, watching the "Round of 16" series in the World Cup. I am the only one here with a laptop, so I am "command central" for digging up streaming video from the other World Cup games. All of the video I've located thus far is terrible (…
With regards to the World Cup, the Dutch Bank ABN AMRO has asked the question, "which team is our 'economic favourite', that is, the country which should become world champion in order to maximise the impact on the world economy." Say what? Yes they released a report on this very important issue.…

I'm supporting France now that they beat us. Here in Brazil the consensus is that our team just goofed around and we deserved to lose. I'm not a football fan so it doesnt't piss me off that much, but for some people it's as if a comet hit their homes and killed their whole family.

well, gabriel, it's a good thing that those "comet hit their homes and killed their whole family" fans aren't supporting the USA because the USA lost early, and with nothing special to show for their efforts.

This far in the competition anyone can beat anyone, the weak teams were gone in the previous round. I just wonder if your theory about red uniforms will hold again and the portuguese will beat the french. It was expected for Portugal to beat both Holland and England (sort of a tradition in the last 20 years), but the french have ousted Portugal from the semifinals of Euro Cup a few times (always in the 30 minute extra-time).
