Paypal Thanks

On a more serious note, I have been receiving donations from some of you to my paypal account. I am very grateful all of you and will be using these monies to purchase my meds, which are quite expensive, after I get out of the nuthouse.

I am not sure if I will ever be in a position to pay you back, or if you ever want to be paid back for your generosity but I can pay you back for your kindness by showing my appreciation to you; I would love to write an essay for you about a topic or question of your choice. I will dedicate that essay, or an issue of Birds in the News if you prefer, to you by name, by pseudonym, or anonymously -- whatever you choose. If you have a question that you wish me to answer, or something that you'd just like to know more about, please let me know and I will do my best -- after I am released -- to write the essay and dedicate it to you.

But first, I have to get out of here!

I do want to say something important to all of you as well, amigos bonitos. I am overwhelmed by what so many people are doing to help me. I truly thought I was friendless and alone in this mess, but you all have demonstrated otherwise and have done so in such a beautiful way -- and there are so…
I have not yet been released because the fearless leader for the hospital was unable to speak with me today (she makes the ultimate decision), but it looks as though tomorrow will probably be my discharge day. The social worker found three potential programs for me to attend on the outside --…
Sadly, a crank has silenced another skeptic. Many of you may know EpiRen, which is the Twitter and blog handle (and sometimes commenting handle here) of René Najera. René is an epidemiologist employed by the state public health department of health of an East Coast state and has been a force for…
Everyone loves free books, right? Well, I know I do, and since I've got a huge stack of books in my apartment that are seeking a loving home, I want to share them with you. These books are duplicates of review copies, advance reading copies and uncorrected proofs as well as some books that I…

Speaking personally, I think that all who donated would be amply rewarded by seeing you safely out of this situation, and ready to continue with your work of love 'from the top'. Being featured in Birds in the News would be a real honour, too.

Speaking for myself (and others, I'd bet) - it's the least I can do for the pleasure of your blog-company. The "payback" will be you out, happy and hopeful again, doing well. But I might think of something to ask you - in fact, what's up with migratory birds who stop migrating? A flock of Canada geese got blown off course, probably over the Appalachians, into Oak Ridge Tennessee - and they NEVER LEAVE! There are thousands of them there now. What happened to that "powerful, unavoidable instinct"?

Ridger, I can't resist answering because I just looked this up a few weeks ago. The answer is that there is more than one kind of Canada Goose, although they aren't sure it's really separate species or not. And, one of the groups (the 'giant' goose) apparently don't migrate. For the ones that do migrate, the statistics on how far and fast is really incredible.
I would love to know more if anyone out there has studied this.

My first visit in quite a while, sorry to say, and I was sad to learn of your recent (and current) ordeal. Glad to offer a little help through Paypal, and I hope things get better for you soon. I went through a painful divorce in 1997, and I've always been a "self sufficient" guy, not exactly a loner, but never one to expect much from people. Yet I was amazed to find I had more friends and supporters than I ever knew, people who were kind and helpful and willing to be there for someone they knew who was hurting. They appreciated me when I didn't even appreciate myself. I had some pretty dark thoughts for a few weeks back then but it worked out and I'm glad it did. I can't say that I know your pain, but I know you are appreciated. So it's a start. Please be well soon.
