I was working on some writing when this .. erm, vehicle .. pulled up in front of my coffee shop to pick up a volunteer who was selling Obama buttons from a small portable table on the street corner. This is not the first time I've seen this vehicle driving around while wearing Obama decorations, and this serves to draw attention to the fact that I have never seen enthusiasm for the McCain/Palin ticket that is even vaguely similar to that shown for Obama/Biden.
I live in a low-income, primarily Spanish-speaking, overwhelmingly catholic (Dominican immigrants) neighborhood. Most of the people here are primarily concerned about paying their rent and health care costs, making sure their kids are getting a decent education and are staying out of trouble. Realistically, McCain has nothing of value to say to me or my neighbors anyway, although I freely concede that neither candidate has a reasonable or workable solution to this nation's health care crisis.

Hmmm, your neighborhood must be one of those anti-American big cities.
I live in rural/rust belt Ohio. The economic downturn is old news here---the local economy has been on a downhill slide for several years. McCain/Palin signs still dominate in the area though. For reasons that are inexplicable to me, the gambling, adulterous husband of an ex-addict, alcohol heiress and the ethically challenged mother of an unwed pregnant teenage daughter have the support of the many christian conservatives in the area.
well, conservative christians' fondness for politicians who are, by their own example, more anti-family than most democrats, serves to reinforce my belief that conservative christians are nothing more than hypocritical loudmouths with the intellectual wattage of a christmas tree light.
Sarah Palin's acceptance speech at the GOP convention
It's a chopped bus.
Love it. After living in some very politically-charged areas for previous elections, I must admit that it is a bit of a relief to be in a very mild (politically speaking) area for this one.
The favorite "erm...vehicle" in our neck of the woods was

(apparently it gets around--the photo is not even from my state!)
"conservative christians are nothing more than hypocritical loudmouths with the intellectual wattage of a christmas tree light. "
Can I use that? That will come in handy with all of the hypochrists down here.
