Northern Cardinal Gets His Turn In The Spotlight
Northern cardinal, Cardinalis cardinalis.
Image: Bob Levy, author of Club George [larger view].
The photographer writes;
A shaft of sunlight fortuitously fell on this male Northern Cardinal at just the right moment. I regularly visit a set of cardinal families. I wish I knew which of the Central Park clans this fella was from but I don't. It does not take away from the enjoyment of this image, does it?

Cardinals make me smile. And they sing when the days start getting longer, even if it's really cold.
I love a boy cardinal. He and a scarlet tanager are probably two of my favorite birds.
What a beautiful little bird! We had a few around my parents' house in Ottawa (Canada), but I haven't seen any in Vancouver.
What a lucky capture (rare!) of sun's ray spread on a cardinal's profile and frontal shoulder! Beautiful bird and also a skillful photographic composition. A very good job, BL.
