Lunch in Helsinki, 2

Coffee and Lunch (croissant with cheese, tomato and "rocket",
a tangy green that I've never seen nor heard of before now)

I am recovering, albeit slowly, from jet lag. This process is made more difficult because my sleep patterns had been seriously disturbed for several weeks before I left NYC, and further complicated by the lack of darkness in Helsinki, where the sun barely goes down the horizon. Thus, most of the night is quite bright, with only 90 minutes or so of relative dusk, followed by a very brilliant sunrise.

This morning was spent birding, and I added several more species to my growing Life List. But birding was cut short by a rainstorm that is predicted to stay for several days. I actually enjoy the rain, and have been looking forward to it because it will allow me to explore some museums, drink a lot of coffee, sort and label my hundreds of photographs and work on a fair amount of writing, including several pieces that I have to send to editors in exchange for money.

That's "rocket"; it should be slightly tangy. I don't think it's a type of lettuce - but I'm only going by the looks; I'm not a herbologist.

Hmm ... on second look, there is some lettuce-looking thing in there with long thin streamers just poking out around the middle and another underneath and to the left of the rocket on the left.

Now all it needs is a slab of smoked salmon. :)

Have you ever heard of "arugula"? I'm pretty sure that's the American English word for what we in Britain call rocket.

i have heard of arugula, but i've never seen or tasted it before now. i certainly prefer the name "rocket" to arugula.

A rocket by any other name would taste as... peppery.

I'm not sure I remember having heard of/tried rocket before around the mid-late nineties, so perhaps it just hasn't had a chance to catch-on in the US yet.

I don't think I like the look of that cheese much, it looks to me like cheap processed crap (unless the photo isn't doing it justice).
