Today, I rejected a submission to Scientia Pro Publica because it was too old (published in September 2009) and because it is not a blog essay. That said, this is an excellent piece of journalistic writing by University of Arizona mathematics PhD Candidate David Morales, published in the Tucson Science Examiner. Morales' piece investigates an issue that I think deserves more attention: water conservation. Even though Morales is writing about water use (and waste) in the deserts of Arizona, this is an important issue that will affect us all soon, if it doesn't already: as a native of "rainy" Seattle, I can tell you that we also experience drought and have had the government impose water use restrictions on us. So follow the link and read about water, while I finish writing Scientia Pro Publica for all of you to read.
Is Green the New Red?
Can I afford the water that comes out of my tap? It’s not a question that Americans typically ask themselves.

This is the time of year, spring, when a lot of people switch to drinking bottled water instead of tap water. They do this because in their particular area the tap water seems to "go bad" ... usually it is a mild smell or a slightly icky taste.
