This is pretty funny!
I'm not really a big fan of digging way into the past for embarassing or otherwise damning quotes to bring up in a present day campaign. With John McCain there really is not much need for it anyway, he is a hypocritical emarrassment (IMHO). But this really repulsive bit of history (h/t to CrooksAndLiars) does not seem like the kind of thing that you can dismiss or minimize due to unknown context or the passage of time. According to a report (from 1986 no less! [PDF]) John McCain made the following repulsive attempt at a joke: Did you hear the one about the woman who is attacked on the…
(hat tip to In It For he Gold) Here is a nice Q&A session wth Dr James Hansen, of NASA'as GISS institute covering things from weater vs climate to politics and policy. It's about 11 minutes
Save the planet! Ditch your flatscreen TV! Or so the breathless Telegraph would have us believe. But they got one thing wrong: all of it. Eli Rabbet has the very gory, very detailed details.

This is a little stale, but a new joint statement came out last month from the National Science Academies of all G8 countries and then some, calling for urgent action to address climate change by reducing cabon emissions. You can read the statement here. Also included is Canada, a smaller economy but one of the worst per capita CO2 emitters, I think worse than the US and just behind Australia if I recall correctly. While Australia was not on that list of signatories, its National Science Academy does endorse the statement. The Australian Academy of Science notes the statement on climate…
Roger Pielke Jr is back at his own teapot, blogging up a tempest or two again. Whether you agree with his points or not, he usually makes for provocative reading and comment threads can be very entertaining and informing. I have not hung around there for quite a while but will pay more attention from now on I think. Anyway, this post is about his post from last Wednesday, titled "Climate Science and National Interests" - rather more general than its actual subject. His implicaion would seem to be there is some hypocrisy on the part of the usual climate change activists and the IPCC but not…
The good news: George W Bush actually does know what a disgrace US economic policy has been for the environmental health of the world. The bad news? He thinks it is funny. The American leader, who has been condemned throughout his presidency for failing to tackle climate change, ended a private meeting with the words: "Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter." He then punched the air while grinning widely, as the rest of those present including Gordon Brown and Nicolas Sarkozy looked on in shock. BTW, a remedy for any possible feelings of nausea upon reading that can be had by reading to…

Below is a listing of all the articles to be found in the "How to Talk to a Climate Sceptic" guide, presented as a handy one-stop shop for all the material you should need to rebut the more common anti-global warming science arguments constantly echoed across the internet. In what I hope is an improvement on the original categorization, they have been divided and subdivided along 4 separate lines: Stages of Denial, Scientific Topics, Types of Argument, Levels of Sophistication. This should facilitate quick retrieval of specific entries. Individual articles will appear under multiple headings…
Poor me, I sat down to a relaxing Sunday morning breakfast last weekend here in Tasmania where I am on business and instead I was assaulted by an atrocious piece of crap "reporting" on the global warming "debate" that framed the whole thing as thoughtful concerned skeptics against True Believers. They even had pictures of burning witches at the stake, I kid you not. And the "investigating" reporter went so far out of his way to disagree with one side (the scientists representing the science as it is very widely understood and non-controversial among the experts), so out of his way that he…

I have not done any checking on this (hey, what are blogs for?) but it is definately plausible and if true very important. It is also potentially avoidable. What they are saying, if you don't want to watch, is that they have some inside information on major ISP's plans to radically alter the way the internet is accessed. In short, by 2012, if this comes to fruition, ISP's will not offer open internet access, rather you will subsrcibe to packages of popular websites and pay extra for any other sites you want to visit. Net neutrality is not an unfamiliar issue for most of you out there I am…
I haven't heard it from anyone else yet so let me go on the record as predicting McCain will choose Joe Lieberman as his vice-presidential running mate. Bipartisanship and all that blah blah balh (not that Joe is a Democrate in any non-technical sense) Not something I would ever consider voting for....
