Waiting for the Future to Arrive

If San Francisco really gets municipal wireless, I am moving there out of sheer principle....

More like this

If I lived in a place with free universal wireless, I'd never get any work done, though. One of the ways I force myself to write is to go to one of the dwindling number of coffee shops in my area that don't offer free wireless.

There is a big push for municipal wireless (actually more - a kind of a town-wide own mini-Internet) in Chapel Hill. If that passes, I'll let you know - this is a cool place to live.

We will see you soon in Chicago then Chris, because Mayor Daley has decided to go Wi-Fi in Chi town too.

Chris,

Come to Akron, Ohio. I believe we're already operational.

Tempe, Arizona is in the process of deploying perimeter-to-perimeter municipal wireless, but I believe it's only free downtown (the portion that's already operational).

Greater Rochester (NY) International Airport has free wireless in the main concourse. It's a nice change from all those @#$&* pay-as-you-go airport wireless "services".

Wow, a lot of places where I ought to move....Not only do we not have municipal Wi-Fi in D.C., you can't even *pay* for it in some of the airport terminals at DCA.

There seems to be a growing number of airports offering free wireless--in addition to the Rochester/Monroe County airport that Julie mentioned, I've recently seen free wireless at the Phoenix and Pittsburgh airports, and I think a few others I passed through. There's an online list of airports with free wi-fi here:
