I just noticed that someone, at some point, put a bio of me up on Wikipedia. I had nothing to do with this. The information presented, and not presented, is interesting, to say the least. You can check it out here. And feel free to add or subtract; I myself feel odd messing with it, but I don't particularly like how it now reads, either.

I've always been perplexed by roman numerals.
First of all, they're just *weird*. Why would anyone come up with something so strange as a way of writing numbers?
. I'm away on vacation this week, taking my kids to Disney World. Since I'm not likely to
have time to write while I'm away, I'm taking the opportunity to re-run an old classic series
of posts on numbers, which were first posted in the summer of 2006. These posts are mildly
Now we're going to try something challenging on the abacus: *division*. Like multiplication, abacus division is close to the way you'd do it on paper. But just like doing paper division is trickier than paper multiplication, abacus division is tricker than abacus multiplication.
I think it must be odd reading an entry on yourself, written by others. It reads fine, to me. I'd say if there are any factual errors, you should mention them in the discussion section. Otherwise, just bask in the glory of your recognition by cyberspace.
I addended "now out in paperback" to the reference to your book. Surely you can't object to that :)
Yes indeedy... modifying your own entry is dubious (I should know, having modified mine :-) but adding stuff to the talk page is good.
You have indeed made it, sir. Books, columns, and awards and lectures at prestigious institutions and to professional societies? Bah! You, sir, are in Wikipedia!
Sheesh, but ya think they could've at least taken the effort to put the html for The Intersection? Even this html-challeged blogger can manage that.
Thanks everyone. No, I wouldn't think of meddling, unless something was wrong factually, in which case I might point it out. But as it stands nothing is really wrong with the entry on a factual level. I just find it odd which things about me wound up being highlighted.
Actually, come to think of it, on a factual level, I'm not sure that a "recurrent topic" in my writing is "the government funding of education, research, and environmental protection"....

Chris, here's a page you may be interested in. It contains guidelines for people in regard to their wikipedia entries:

Nice bio. But I'd bet that due to the title of your book, it's only a matter of time before some wingnut with time on his/her hands will try some "creative editing" mischief.
Looking at the page's history, already there have been two vandalism attempts back in May.
