"The COMPETES legislation was a great step forward for U.S. efforts in science, technology, innovation and education - and it will yield results. But the debate on science and technology in this country must grow to be part of a national discussion on our future - and a presidential debate on the subject would put it front and center," concluded Gordon.

A question-
What needs to happen for this to become a reality? Does a news organization need to take this up, do candidates need to agree to it, or what? It seems like the list of supporters has grown and grown, yet there's no appreciable interest in the world at large.
Do we just need to set up a debate and hope candidates show up? I'm thoroughly confused on the action side of this initiative.
Hey,
We're working on this behind the scenes. we hope to have some news soon. but we don't yet.
suffice it to say that there is a plan, and we hope it comes to fruition. in the meantime, if you want to help make it happen reach out to candidates and tell them they should endorse the idea!
one thing about your post is wrong--there is *growing* interest in the world at large
There is growing interest, no doubt. I guess what I was after was some kind of description of the action plan. The transition from idea to reality fascinates me, and I was curious as to the logistics of it. But I've seen too many movements fizzle due to too much support, and not enough action.
But, if you're working on this "behind the scenes" as you say, and can't give us details yet, fair enough. I wholeheartedly support the endeavor. Best of luck and keep up the good work!
