Mooney & Nisbet Do Bay Area

Over the past few days, it has been possible to catch the two "framing science" perpetrators jogging along San Francisco Bay under the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge.

We haven't hung out in a while, so we had a lot to catch up on. Nisbet is a former Osher Fellow at the San Francisco Exploratorium who is still reeling from the massive attention paid to his AAAS panel (wink). And as for me...well, you already know I moved to LA. And as you'll soon hear, Sheril and I are embarking on a new project (besides Science Debate 2008) about the intersection between science and society.

So we're in different places now, geographically and otherwise, but we're reviving the "Speaking Science 2.0" talk for several events here, including this public one tonight on the Berkeley campus. Hoping to see some Sciblings there.

Meantime, I've been having arguments with Nisbet over why ScienceDebate2008 is or isn't a good idea overall. His criticism is actually fairly interesting and a lot smarter than some of the other knee jerk stuff that I've seen--indeed, so interesting that I don't really disagree with it, and actually think that if/when the first presidential science debate happens, he and I will both probably concur that it was a good thing on balance--or at least a useful experience for science to have and learn from.

So, perhaps I'll blog on this in the future.

I will be spending next week (my spring break) in San Francisco as an Osher Fellow at the Exploratorium science museum. While in the Bay Area, Chris Mooney will be flying up from LA to join me Tuesday evening at UC Berkeley for our latest in the Speaking Science 2.0 tour. Details are below. (We are…
So: I'm in D.C. right now. That's because Nisbet-Mooney just gave our last "framing science" talk of 2007--a lunch event yesterday at the National Academy of Sciences' Keck Center. This talk wasn't open to the public, so we didn't publicize it, but we can't think of a better place to wrap things up…
I'm hitting the road this morning for a week-long, three stop trip that takes me first to Princeton, New Jersey; second to Georgia Tech; and third to D.C. The first two stops are for talks, the last is for R&R, reconnecting with old friends, and meeting up with Sheril to work on a new project…
So...Sheril and I had a long day yesterday at the N.C. Science Blogging Conference, the highlight of which--at least for us, given how much we practiced for it--was our panel (with Jennifer) on the framing and communication of science. There have been a lot of reactions to the panel...for a…

I concur, cute title
