I posted a bit about Jackie (you can read the original article at Modern Mechanix). At the time that article was published, 20% of the chemists at the plant where Jackie worked were women, so the "loneliness" comment seems to refer to the fact that she worked independently in the lab. The article also makes a point of saying that she has plenty of "male admirers" and likes dancing, so that we understand that she is a "real" woman under her lab coat. I really wonder what happened to her.
