Sheril Votes For Science

I contribute to another Seed blog called 'A Vote For Science' where we recently launched our 'YouTube Challenge':

Scientists and Engineers for America Action Fund and ScienceBlogs have teamed up to bring you "A Vote For Science." Here we will feature videos of scientists explaining who they are voting for and why.

Jennifer, Lawrence, and many others have already submitted videos, and I finally recorded mine from the road, taking a slightly different approach:

Readers are encouraged to upload your own YouTube videos and make sure you tag them with 'avoteforscience.'

More like this

Get a camera, film yourself, post your video on YouTube and join many others doing the same: Are you a scientist? Tell the world who you are voting for this year. McCain? Obama? None of the above? Upload your YouTube video explaining who are you, who you are voting for and why you are voting for…

No one is in a better position to understand how policy affects science than working scientists themselves. Scientists & Engineers for America Action Fund and ScienceBlogs asked several well-known figures in science—including recent Nobel Prize winner Martin Chalfie and "father of the Internet…
A bunch more videos have been uploaded in the SEED Magazine, SEA Action Fund "A Vote For Science" YouTube challenge where we asked scientists to tell the public who they are voting for this election and why. So far we only have videos of scientists who are voting for Obama. However, a new report…

I thought these were lame and partisan until now. You got the message right and with grace and style.
As usual.

"It's not my place to tell you who to vote for."

Hmmm, so is that what you think all those other scientists are doing?

If I'm not mistaken the whole point of this challenge was to get scientists to tell us who they are voting for and why. Not to tell us who to vote for. You asked them to go to another site and get informed. I thought that was what this was all about. Scientifically minded folks getting to hear the thoughts of actual scientists regarding the election. What better way to inform oneself!

You could have simply written a post saying just what you said in your video. Instead, by making the video and pretty much not playing along you mock the whole enterprise... not to mention the others who took the time to give their thoughts--as they were asked to do!

I think this is brilliant Sheril. You are using the collaboration you're a part of to say it's up to us to participate.

Well done + what Kevin said.
