A few days ago I mentioned that paleontologist Terry Gates was going to appear on Bill O'Reilly's show to speak on the subject of whether global warming killed the dinosaurs. As we all know, FOX News = Fake News, and I don't understand why Gates agreed to be on the show. It was the absolute worst interview I've ever seen, and basically consisted of a lot of clips of dinosaurs killing each other interspersed with a few questions that made it seem like scientists don't know what the hell they're talking about when it comes to the K/T extinction (which, of course, marked the extinction of groups other than dinosaurs). If you think you can handle it, you can find the video online here (look for the icon with a dinosaur on it midway through the page).
Gates did an adequate job hitting O'Reilly softball questions, but hopefully other paleontologists will learn from the "interview": if Bill O'Reilly invites you to be on his show, JUST DON'T GO!

Man I hate O'Reilly. And you're right, this was the worst interview ever. It was mostly clips from movies rather than modern science, and the bit where Terry Gates was describing the KT impact as a 6 Km wide asteroid, they show a clip of something the size of Venus colliding with the Earth and destroy it! What a belt full of tools. I do like Terry's take on the KT boundary - being a combination of factors causing large-scale extinction, but O'Liely turning that into "you guys know nothing" was just infuriating.
Glad I didn't see the interview. I had a better show to watch than to spend time watching a short interview on dinosaurs-- NOVA and The Four Winged Dinosaur!
wow. that was just horrible. I loved how they showed pterasaurs when they were discussing birds. Cause we all know that makes a lot of sense.
Great blog my friend. Keep it up.
