Creationism where it belongs, in the fiction section

Today Greg Laden mentioned a paleontology-based creationist novel that was bundled in with the Expelled marketing campaign called Fossil Hunter. Some of you may recall that I mentioned the book about a year ago but never got around to reading it/posting about it. Since I went to all the trouble of getting a used copy from an independent bookstore (so the money would go to the bookstore, not the people behind the book), though, I figure I might as well make good on my promise to review it. It couldn't be any worse than Monster, right?

Summer is just about here, and you need some summer reading. Light. Fuzzy. Delightful. Amusing. Perfect for the deck chair or the sand. Nevermind the fact that you are a low-energy, transitioning, cheap, homseteading type, and your deck chair is probably planted on your porch, and the sand is…
PZ, Bora, Orac, John, and others have all put up posts about a list of the 50 most significant Science Fiction and Fantasy works of the last fifty years. As the reigning Geek-Lord of ScienceBlogs, I figured that I had to weigh in as well. Here's the list: the one's that I've read are bold-faced…
Against my better judgement, I've ended up writing a lot about the financial mess that we're currently going through. If you've read that, you know that my opinion is that the mess amounts to a giant pile of fraud. But even having spent so much time reading and studying what was going on, the…
Reading the news lately, I've come across an amazing example of how ubiquitous bad math can be used. Most of you have probably heard about what's been called "the sub-prime crisis". Despite a lot of media hand-wringing about how complicated it all is, the sub-prime crisis is really a very simple…

If it proves amenable to mockery, will you mock it mercilessly? ;o)

She couldn't know that circumstances would bring her adversary and competitor, Dr. Murad, to Iraq when she discovers an ancient human fossil so controversial it puts her entire expedition in danger.

Please please tell me that this ancient hominid fossil is actually that of a sparkly vampire!

Nope, it's one of the super-fast & strong predatory vampires from Peter Watts' "Blindsight", who preyed on normal humans but possessed a neurological quirk that caused them to go into seizures when they saw intersecting straight lines, causing their eventual extinction once human technology started to feature straight, manufactured objects and buildings.

Evolution belongs in the insane asylum along with all other marxist socialist anti-christian bigots. There is not enough room on planet earth for freedom of individuals and marxist socialism. One of them has to go. I pick the extermination of marxism and the theory of evilution (intended)and its worshippers.

Was Darwin a monkey's uncle? probably.

Darwinism is evil.

Socialism is evil.

Communism is evil.

Liberalism/socialism is evil.

Evil never dies. it just burns forever and ever in a lake of fire just like evolution will do.

Thank you Edgar Allen 5)

You never responded to Brendon Reid on the Monster post! He seemed like such a reasonable fellow.

You're a braver man than me, Brian. Reading that kind of dreck amounts to self-torture as far as I'm concerned. It will be entertaining, once you're finished, to read what will no doubt be a merciless review. Hey, you read this stuff so we don't have to!

Ah! They must have preyed heavily upon our ancestors during the aquatic phase of human evolution.

Please shut up, because you either have:

A) No idea what you're talking about
B) Under influence of alcohol or drug abuse
C) All of the above

You don't have a modicum of common sense or intellect in that grey slop of moldy pudding you call your brain. I suggest you do some research, read a few books written by scientists, visit a museum (Not the Creation one in Kentucky, thanyou.), and then come back to the real world when you realize your world was built on nothing but a book of lies filled with bigotrous ignorance and complete superstition.

And people wonder why aliens haven't contacted us yet. Tell me, are you also a member of the Westboro Baptist church? Is this Fred Phelps? I look forward to protesting at your funeral Mr. Phelps :)

Brian Switek I'm so glad I came across this blog. Someone else who shares the same views I do. To me, Creationism doesn't belong in any section in a bookstore, it belongs in a garbage can.
