Wow, 886. You'd think you'd be hard pressed for material. But somehow you keep new and unique pictures. keep it up!

These animals have a unique presence. I was motorcycling along the more northern part of Mulholland Highway (Santa Monica Mountains, NW of Los Angles) one day when a cougar trotted out from the brush, glanced dismissively at me, then ambled along the roadway in front of me a little way before turning off into the brush on the other side of the road. Their broad beam, lowered head, and casual sense of power, spell "don't mess with ME bro" in no uncertain terms. Unlike coyotes (psychopathic jesters), bears (curmudgeons all), or something I once encountered looked like a jaguar or panther (but in LA?) that was sleek and business-like but seemed more to fade into the background than be assertive in the way of the cougar.

I was lucky. I was essentially unprotected. He (she?) was just out for a stroll. About 20 ft in front of me.

Expecting a live animal, that put me in mind of The Arrogant Worms' 'Mounted Animal Nature Trail'.
