Relaxing with jellyfish

I came across this relaxing video of comb jellyfish on Scientific American that I thought you would enjoy. I wonder if I could make this my screensaver...

I just came across two blogs dedicated to all things jellyfish: JellyBiologist  Jellyfish Aquarist Who knew there were so many people interested in jellyfish to warrant such wonderful blogs! I admit spending a lot of my free time this weekend on these blogs reading about these fascinating creatures…
I've said before that, for my money, Bill Hicks is the greatest comedian of all time. And I came across this video from Daily Motion (similar to Youtube) and thought I'd post it here. This is Bill Hicks riffing about the war on drugs. Enjoy.

A recent letter on the worldwide prevalence of head lice in CDC's journal Emerging Infectious Diseases made me nostalgic for the good old days when our two kids were in daycare (they are both adults with children of their own in daycare now). In particular, I got to thinking about the days when I…

This is very beautiful and intriguing.
The comb jellyfish are the only animals that have nervous systems but lack neuron building genes. There has been much debate regarding the origin of these strange and interesting animals. In many studies of the comb jelly's DNA, they have been placed "at the base of the tree of life" but sceptics wonder if genetic mutation has caused them to seem closer to the base of the evolutionary tree then they actually are. My question is, how can an organism be at the base of an evolutionary chain but be so vastly different from every other organism above it on that chain; how can comb jelly's be so biologically separate and unique from those organisms said to have evolved from them.
