Tomorrow: Talking To Craig Venter

i-a4e4ae55d90470d3175345cd2508f3b4-venter portrait200.jpgThanks for all the questions for my talk with Craig Venter for bloggingheads.tv. I didn't end up reading questions verbatim a la Emily Litella ("a Mr. Richard Feder from Fort Lee New Jersey asks...") But the questions definitely shaped the conversation.

Some readers have been asking when our talk will be posted. Answer: Saturday morning. I'll post a link when it's live, and you can also check bloggingheads.tv directly.

Update: It's up. Comments are welcome over there or over here.

Last week I appeared on bloggingheads.tv, talking about life in all its weirdness with science writer John Horgan. The folks at bloggingheads.tv wondered if I'd come back, perhaps bringing along a scientist to talk to. I said, Of course. The scientist I've invited along is Craig Venter. In the…
Since the bloggingheads "diavlog" with David Dobbs and me was the first science-oriented installment to come out (more or less) since the repudiation of Bloggingheads.tv by Carl Zimmer and Sean Carrol, and now Phil Plait and PZ Myers, I think I should say something about why I did it and what I…
A Mr. Richard Feder from Fort Lee, New Jersey, writes in and says, Dear Roseanne Roseannadanna, I just read of some bizarre Southern ritual whereby Durham-Chapel Hill-RTP bloggers are meeting this coming Friday for a barbecue. What have Triangle bloggers done to anyone such that they should be…
Bloggingheads.tv just posted a conversation Greg Laden and I had about the second-biggest scientific controversy of Darwin's time, and of Darwin's life: the argument over how coral reefs form. The coral reef argument was fascinating in its own right, both scientifically and dramatically -- for here…

He does an excellent job of misrepresenting the importance of non-coding DNA in the human genome. Sure, some of it has a function, but it's not clear from the interview that the majority is just junk.

Also, every time Venter says "Genetic Code" when he means "Genome" a fairy loses its wings.

You confused Emily Litella with Roseann Roseannadanna, therefore "Darwinism" is wrong and all the mutually contradictory creationisms are correct. ;-)
