I don't read the local paper regularly, so it took a LiveJournal post to alert me to this story from the Times Union:
The unannounced inspection by TSA officials took place early last week. [Albany International Airport's] security measures failed in five of seven tests, most of the problems occurring at the passenger checkpoint, the sources said.
In one test, TSA inspectors hid the components of a fake bomb in carry-on luggage that also contained a bottle of water. Passengers are prohibited from carrying containers holding more than three ounces of liquids, gels or aerosols through airport checkpoints.
The screeners at Albany International confiscated the water bottle but missed the bomb. In all, the inspectors slipped four banned items through the main checkpoint during the test, sources said.
Oh, that's just fantastic. I'm flying out of Albany on Friday. I guess I can look forward to having my bags rifled through by the security personnel.

Hm, perhaps making screeners spend their time looking for oh-so-dangerous things like water might be distracting them from looking for bombs?
Naw, that can't be it.
Remember not to pack anything worth it to the looters to steal, or you'll be supplying some nice gifts to their relatives, or themselves.

Homeland Severity warrantlessly searches and seizes 99.9999% of innocents. What difference accrues if they miss the 0.0001% guilty? Rest assured you will never see a headline like
Plane sinks from sky as bilge pump fails to bail
I've read where the sales of ziploc bags has exploded as a result of some TSA rules. I assume the share holders of the corporation that owns them just got a nice unexpected bonus. The next plane ride I take, I'm just going to pack in a ziploc bag - they now make them large enough to fit a sleeping bag.
You mean you don't feel safer because you take your shoes off?
Why are you opposed to freedom????
