Official Purdue banner bearer!

Today our new president, France Cordova, was officially inaugurated. I got to carry the banner for the College of Engineering - how cool is that? And I didn't even fall over.
Thanks to the police officer who took this photo, as we waited to go in the hall. More photos of the inauguration are here.
Now heading back to Illinois for the weekend. If I can finish getting myself packed, that is, and maybe beat back the regular let-down headache. But it's a beautiful day here, and will be a lovely drive.

Okay, so what on earth *have* I been up to, if not blogging? I'm catching you up (rather like the recitative bits in opera - dry, dull, but advancing the action, rather than arias which are beautiful but don't get you anywhere much) with some RBOCs... As previously mentioned, I had a trip to…
I've noticed that a certain grimness has entered my colleagues' and my attitude over the last week or so. It's a "there is only (X) days/weeks left, we just have to finish" attitude, similar to what I anticipate marathon runners experience around about 24 miles or so. A just keep going, don't…
Hahahah, I foolishly thought that, when summer officially started, my life would settle down. Hohoho, so why don't I try to complicate things by, oh, I don't know, how about moving, and putting our house on the market? So here are some updates that give a somewhat authentic snapshot of what I'm…

I got together with Lynn Fellman and Greg Laden for a hasty dinner before I had to go move my car and park prior to Richard…

I guess this makes it a banner day?

Fantastic smile.

LOL at the puffy hat comment.

Great pic.

I know, I was all bummed about the mortarboard too. I mean, I didn't even get a hood - what's the point in having a PhD if you don't get to wear a hood? Although I went to the wrong school for a puffy hat... what can I say? Should have been one of my grad school criteria.

I was selected because my department head nominated me, and he was asked because our department is the newest in the college, and has had a pretty good year, I guess. Although I'm not too sure about the procedure. It might have just been because I was around the office late at night, ergo available for the asking...
