And so it begins

The first World Cup 2006 game is over, with Germany beating Costa Rica 4-2. Good game with some nice goals, including a wonderful forty yarder. I was surprised that Costa Rica stayed as close as they did.

Looking forward to rest of the competition - Poland v Ecuador is on in an hour.

The dogphysics karma joke is pretty much dead, as countries with current or future editions of How to Teach Physics to Your Dog have gone a dismal 1-3-0 in the first round of elimination play. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did, honestly. The big story of the World Cup at the moment is the…
The last two days of group play were kind of disappointing, with two games (Brazil-Portugal and Spain-Chile) barely being contested in the second half, as the teams involved were sure to advance, and just sort of kicked the ball around idly in the middle of the field until the clock ran out. In a…

The German deffence looked like Swiss cheese. Germany will have problems with more experienced teams. I must say that the last German goal was spectacular.

I agree completely regarding the German defense. I think however - as I watch the Poland/Ecuador game - that the Germans will advance, just not go very much further.

The Poles didn't play too well, I wasn't expecting that loss. I think the announcer referred to the Polish defense as "the terra-cotta army"... ouch.

Sheesh, with three games a day how am I supposed to get anything done?
