Inconvenient truths

Darfur. Four hundred thousand and still counting.

Poverty. So many lives in the margins moving from one disaster to another.

Climate change. Our own death sentence. Or an opportunity for greatness.

Global conflicts. Religion, politics, greed and human callousness. The photo above may not be enough to convey ground realities. Humans are easily desensitized. Try this or these. Reality is surely far worse.

Karen Armstrong has once again published a pile of meaningless twaddle in defense of religion. In this mess, she takes a series of statements about god that she says need rethinking…but as always, her "rethinking" is merely a reworking of apologetics for maintaining the status quo. It's almost as…
Alaska is being called the poster child (state?) for climate change because things have been so strange there lately. One reason for this is the extreme warm conditions in the North Pacific and associated (probably) changes in the jet stream, as well as overall warming, which has caused coastal…
I’m sure that most of you watched the Presidential debate on Monday night, just as I did. Over the years, these debates have always always painful for me to watch, given the candidates’ tendency to answer the question they want to answer rather than the question actually answered; to find ways to…
Here's a chance for some skeptical activism if you happen to live in New York and its environs. It's book promotion event for the most recent anti-vaccine propaganda piece, Vaccine Epidemic: How Corporate Greed, Biased Science, and Coercive Government Threaten Our Human Rights, Our Health, and Our…

Hello SCIENTIFIC INDIAN,
I am a regular reader of your blog and enjoy some articles you write or link to on science.
Coming to the point.....

I am not sure why you have such a fanatic view against religion. It is man's interpretation of it that has caused religion to be a cause of conflict. The concept itself does not have any reason for the conflict.
Science has been a great tool that humans could have used for progress. It is this science that has enabled us to create weapons that has killed millions. It is this science which is causing things like global warming. It has also helped us in curing many diseases and saving lives. Life can however be created. Animals did not have science to create life since the beginning of the universe. Any idea/concept/feeling/thought can be used for progress but it can also be used for destruction. It just depends on the individual who uses it.
This is your blog and you have all the right to share your thoughts. You must realise that I am not trying to justify the correctness of religion because my interpretation of it is very different from those of all the people I know. You must also realise one day that you are merely an immature individual with a little sense of direction.
