Big Bother in the UK and India

Yes. You read that right. A really big bother. It's all over the BBC here. People in the UK and India have suddenly discovered reality shows. Racist slur on Shilpa! The Indian movie star has found herself on a show that is insulting! And, there are women who insult other women! Surprise, surprise.

Reality shows are not new. It is a great format to present certain shows. Say, the life of a marginal farmer in India or Africa. It can enlighten us, move us to tears and spur us into action. It can change lives. But, in the hands of monkeys, as they would say in tamil, it is like a garland whose flowers have all been ripped off.

The current controversy is going as per script for the producers of the such irritating shows. It's the golden age of mediocrity. Publicity by controversy is easier than popularity by real talent. Sheesh. What can we do, you ask? Here's what. Take some time to memorize the channel, the producers and the participants. Never spend a penny on them again in your life. Convince your friends to do the same. Don't soil your mind.

I would not have believed this would be possible in 2007, and yet, here it is. CBS is bringing to your television, this fall, a series so full of stereotypes, so dazzingly stupid, so ridiculously puerile, that it must surely offend the sensibilities of everyone in science. I am talking about "The…
...but you make it so damn hard. MTV has been incessantly airing their latest movie award travesty all week, and I've caught a couple of segments while channel surfing. Another year, another boring awards ceremony. Even Sarah Silverman's jabs at Hollywood couldn't make up for the mediocrity. I have…

Americans, in particular, will be amused by the "He didn't call her a paki he called her a cunt" explanation offered by the show's producers.
