I usually try to maintain a fairly single-minded focus on genomics on this blog, but Alex Wild's current series of post on insect photography over at Photo Synthesis is simply stunning. Anyone interested in either photography or entomology - or simply appreciative of a beautiful image - should…
A New York Times piece by Atul Gawande gives some good news and bad news about a life-saving checklist developed to prevent fatal infections in intensive care units. The good news: A year ago, researchers at Johns Hopkins University published the results of a program that instituted in nearly…
If even 10% of the allegations in this case are correct, it's one of the most outrageous cases I've ever seen. The Indian River School District in Delaware is accused by a Jewish family of pushing Christianity so agressively and viciously that the family has moved to Wilmington because they feared…

Beautiful... and fast. It seems that it was only just launched.

On checking, it was actually launched Jan 19, 2006, with closest approach to Jupiter on Feb 28 2007. It blew past at 21 km/sec relative to Jupiter, and at a distance of about 2.3 million km. At that time, all the moons were on the far side; so it's particularly impressive that such great images were obtained. Looks promising for 2015!
