5 blogs I read

Over at The Scientist, they're asking

Tell us what your favorite life science blogs are and why by clicking the button and leaving a comment, and we will publish a list of the most popular choices across the different areas of life sciences. With your help we hope to provide a list of who is currently hot in the science blogosphere, and why you should be reading them.

Attila Csordas, who was asked to contribute to the main article chose ... me (amongst others). Several additional bloggers gave their 5 favorites.

So who are my favorites? I hate that idea - top 5 ... so instead I'll tell you which blogs I tend to gravitate towards. As a scientist who spends a lot of time at the bench, I prefer blogs by researchers. Those who love talking about how cool life is, and those who rant on about the agony and pleasures of academic life. So in no particular order here are 5 blogs that I read:

Dan Rhoads' Migrations

Dan is a true bio-phile. Whether it be microscopic cells migrating in a petri dish or birds migrating over a continent, Dan keeps his eye on all things that are on the move. And Dan has this great item called Cells Weekly.

Sunil Laxman's Balancing Life

What I like about Sunil's blog is how he conveys the spirit of being a lab rat - the curiosity, the whimsical view of our everyday struggles, and the love of molecules that bounce inside each of our cells.

RPM's evolgen

This is hardcore stuff. Genes, genomes, genetics and fly torture.

And two group blogs that I look at Biocurious, which deals with the molecular aspects of biology, and Gene Expression (Classic), which is closer to the macroscopic (with a touch of neuroscience).
