So last Wednesday, I weighed in at 212 pounds (which I rounded to 96kg for some reason). I've struggled, seen a lot of good and bad advice, increased my exercise, decreased my food intake, sinned gravely, and generally whined and moaned.
This morning, clothed and after breakfast, I'm 208 lbs.
Rock on.

Note: I've been informed by one or two experts whom I trust that my plan sucks. My basic plan is based on a Weight Watchers model, but I take experts with evidence very seriously, so there may be some serious modifications to this post. --PalMD
Obesity is a bad thing. This isn't a moral judgment…
So, I'm at the end of week #2. I started, fully clothed and after breakfast, at 212. Last Wednesday I was 208.
Today I'm 206.
My successes have been in maintaining sustainable eating habits. My failures have been in keeping to an exercise program. I haven't been completely sedentary, but I…

I came across a very interesting article in the Ottawa Citizen this weekend, unpleasantly titled "For Canada's obese, exercise alone isn't going to cut it". The crux of the article is this - exercise will not help you lose weight. Every few months it seems that this issue…
I started this as a comment to this thread, but perhaps this is enough for its own spin-off discussion. IndianCowboy said:
I'm not denying the influence of these genes on one's ability to maintain a certain weight. I'm not even denying the size of their influence, but one thing that bothers me…
Congrats!
(and grrr you boyz make me so mad! 8lb in a week!)
w00t!!!
It's not the math, it's the reading comprehension FAIL.
Great work.
Okay, the article seemed kind of tame to rant and rave. Suggestions were made to include small amounts of chocolate in a diet that consists of a lot of plant based foods. You didn't mention the reasonable suggestions in your criticism. There are many more studies regarding chocolate and they seem to point to it being healthy. Nowhere in the article was any suggestions to go crazy and eat a bunch of chocolate. Now, I'll be the first to admit that the Huffington Post is not where I'd go for science anyway. The Living section often has fluff articles. The category of Wellness often includes some pop interest articles. This article is not unlike others I've seen written by both medical professionals as well as lay people. It reminds me of what I'd see in pop health magazines. I go to Huff Post for politics and I take the Living section with a grain of salt.
Perhaps you're a little hungry or feeling cranky. Seems awfully critical for a lite piece.
Nice work, Scibling!
Whining and moaning burns lots of calories. Keep up the good work!
Go Pal!!!! Sci is probably UP two pounds, knowing my luck...
So at 4 lb. a week, you will weight 0 at 22 weeks, right?

Good job, man. I wish I was doing as well (step one: one helping instead of three...), because my goal is to be well below the BMI limit for marrow donation, so that if I get a call, I won't be surprised and turned down at the physical.
Yay for you.
