Just want to throw this out there: An unconference on Science Communication (actually, a Jamboree for the Science Scouts?)

Would appreciate it if you could pass this on somehow?

Thoughts?

Dear Circadian Rhythm and Brain, Cut it out, both of you. I don't know if this is your idea of a sick practical joke or what, Circadian Rhythm, but I really, really, really do not appreciate being jolted wide awake at 4am. The first time it was regrettable, but now that it's been happening for…
As I've observed before, many scientists, especially physicists, seem to have a strong belief that the fundamental truths of nature are inherently elegant and beautiful. This new NPR story on symmetries fits right into that scientific-beauty-is-truth frame - down to the requisite Keats quote at…
There's a great review over at Adventures in Ethics and Science on a book called The Ethical Chemist: Professionalism and Ethics in Science by Jeffrey Kovac. The book takes a case study approach to teaching ethics in science. The case studies are concise but rich with possibilities, and range…
Elder offspring: You're going to have to put up a post on your blog saying that there will be no Friday Sprog Blogging next week. Dr. Free-Ride: Why do I have to do that? Elder offspring: You'll be at your conference and we'll be on vacation, so we won't be able to talk about science with you. Dr.…

Yes, yes, yes! And badges too? Right? There will be badges?

OK, I'll come to Vancouver for this if you come to RTP in January (that's the renamed Third Science Blogging Conference). Well, if I can, I'll come to Vancouver any time for any reason or no reason at all...

This would be pretty great. Presumably, you'd try to attract everything from academics, to bloggers, to journalists, to radio, TV, theatre, etc, etc - as wide a spectrum as possible. This way, the unconference aspect might have some really interesting dynamics.

What's a science scout?

I would love to if there is funding to pay for flights. I'm happy to cover everything while there. I'd love to give a talk, moderate a session, man the keg or whatever.

Is there a specific focus within science communication? Any (un)conference that highlights science communication is a good thing.

Yay jamboree! Science Scouts forever (btw, in case, you didn't notice, but I think this is a great idea)
