What disease are you?

Regular readers have probably noticed I rarely do quizzes. I'm just lame like that. But this one was a bit too perfect for this site: What disease are you? My results after the jump.

You Are Ebola!

Also known as Hemorrhagic Fever, you are a risk-taker. You love to travel and experience the world. You are not afraid to walk on the wild side, while still being a funny, yet sarcastic person. Being so open-minded, you have been known to shock people, which is a symptom that occurs within one week of being infected. What happens next? A quick and excrutiating death...technicalities.

OK, I cop to the sarcasm and I consider myself pretty open-minded, but I doubt many people I know would characterize me as a risk-taker. I'm far too boring.

As I've noted before, filoviruses are some of my favorite pathogens. I don't work on them myself--though in the pre-children era I certainly thought about it--but I find them absolutely fascinating to read about and follow the literature. Mostly, I think, this is because after knowing about them…
Homeopathy is quackery. There, I’ve fulfilled my normal requirement to start out all posts that I write having to do with homeopathy with a simple, declarative, and, most of all, true statement about what homeopathy is. I also like to mention briefly homeopathy’s two major “laws.” The first is…
Scary. A woman is feared to have died from ebola after taking ill on a plane home from Africa yesterday. Passengers and crew on the flight to Heathrow are understood to be panicking that they have contracted the contagious virus. They helped the Briton when she was vomiting and bleeding. Some even…
I mentioned in this post on Marburg virus that another outbreak of hemorrhagic fever had been reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC, formerly Zaire). It's now been officially reported by labs in Congo and Gabon that, indeed, this new outbreak is due to the Ebola virus. More on this…

Heart disease?! I don't want to be heart disease. I want to be something infectious.

Stupid quiz.

You are Eczema!

WTF!!?? :)

Eczema?!

Maybe heart disease isn't so bad after all.

I'm Ebola too. Yeah, that describes me. Well, except the death part. I'm hoping to make people celebrate life more.

I'm rabies as well.

You're Ebola? There's an ecologist in Texas who wants a word...

I'm 'flu: "Also known as the flu, you are warm, nurturing, and make a great confidante." That's what I tell all the birds. "...you sure can clear out a room with your lame jokes." Uh-hu.

Bob

Ebola.

Damn, I was hoping for smallpox or plague, a real megadeath causer that changed history rather than some jumped-up, overpublicized johnny-come-lately virus that's killed less than a few thousand.

On another topic: any recommendations for a lay or accessible introductory text on epidemiology for the curious?
