Nerd epilogue

Oh, and for the record:

I am nerdier than 99% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

How the heck I got that nerd score without building my own computer or knowing my current IP address, and admitting I prefer Windows, I haven't a clue...

Only a 95...I bow to your 4% greater nerdiness.

Eric -

A true nerd would note that 99% is 4.040404...% greater than 95%. :)

From a fellow 95%'er.

How the heck I got that nerd score without building my own computer or knowing my current IP address, and admitting I prefer Windows, I haven't a clue.

I did some experimenting, and I had to change 3 of my answers to the least nerdy answer to get my score to drop from 99 to 98. I suspect those 3 issues you mention are no more important than the questions about education level or how well you know the periodic table. (Unrelated: I believe this answers some of the questions on other blogs about the statistical validity of the quiz ... )

Interesting. There must be a split in the 99th percentile group - I scored as a Supreme Nerd God when I took it. Must be that I built my own computer and knew the periodic table. As for Windows, well, I personally found Windows to be significantly more stable than MacOS (though my point of comparison primarily rides on the Mac PowerPC and doesn't include the later versions). Not the norm, I know.

But anything is better than that bastard child of OS/2 and UNIX, AIX. Well, anything more sophisticated than DOS.

Blast! Only 98. Well, I blame it on my advanced age.

77 ... I'll just crawl off into a corner now.

Which versions did you compare... XP versus 9x? NT versus X? Which version of X, 10.1,2,3,4? On which box?

You are the biggest nerd ever.

I scored a 68%. I'm a low-rank nerd.

It looks like the score is a percentile of quiz-takers rather than an absolute rating.

Seth, He doesn't say MacOS X, but plain MacOS. I bet he is talking System 7 (with lots of extensions).

87, which I guess is OK for a social science type

99 - Supreme Nerd God, well, unless using wiki to find an image of Maxwell knocks me down some.

I kept looking for an electronic device behind the woman. Didn't notice her ears until I read the choices.

My IP address is 192.168.0.21, NATurally.

99 - Nerd God B-)

I think if they switched to logarithmic scaling, they could better differentiate between the great number of extreme nerds who hang out at ScienceBlogs.

BTW, CP/M rulez.

can't take the test, i'm too busy changing the laptop cdrom drive innard to a dvd from another laptop drive (running laptop: hp omnibook xe3, parts laptop: hp pavilion zt1145, both in pieces all over the kitchen table).

Alain

Somehow my score comes in at 81, so I'll stick with my more or less honest answers and place in the world. (It should have asked if my parents were machine code programmers and thus allowed for my being in rebellion all these years, an adjustment of another dozen points for sure.)

I'm at 90 now, but as I find myself having to repeat, this only measures math/science geekiness. Politics geeks, linguistics geeks, literary geeks, etc. will score relatively low on the test simply because they're not mathematicians or computer nerds.

My biggest beef with the test is the question on programming languages. All five languages they list are Turing Complete, and therefore "real" programming languages, but none of them are dialects of Lisp, so none of them are real programming languages.

Woohoo. 29% It tells me that I am an aspiring nerd, but I dispute that.

nerd score 18 , whew!
