Doc Charles examines the joy of blueberries,
and all the wonderful reasons why we should enjoy them.
It has been a good year here for blueberries, warm and sunny with just enough rain, and not too heavy mostly. The strawberries and cherries were beat up, but the raspberries seem to be doing ok, especially the late fruiting varieties. We also had a fabulous crop of wild vine berries and black raspberries. We had to skip on the formers, since we had some painting (and stripping/sanding) done right by the bushes.

With the munchkins it is hard to do much wild blueberry picking - too marshy up in the high meadows, and real black bear presence; so we've been picking high bush blueberries at a local> mountain farm (hm, the big one is a Percheron! nice horse).
We're almost at our target of 50 kilos - that is roughy 50,000 berries, picked by hand. The flavour this year has been fabulous, very sweet and intense.
Oh, and on our third trip up there we ran into one of our local doctors and her family - she's read the study also...

wow, 50 kilos! you're going to live forever if you eat them all. that could be a good or bad thing, depending on how you look at it.
seriously, nice photo.
I am not too much into blueberries, but as a kid I drank gallons-per-day of blueberry juice! Delicious!!!!
