what the "more reasonable people" are saying

"ten dead American soldiers and four burned trucks"

'Let's do it if the Iranians stage a cross-border attack inside Iraq.'

"Shifting Targets" a Sy Hersh article in the New Yorker.
Speculative but interesting read.
Wonder what our Brit readers think of the "shame" and "desire for revenge" the Royal Navy is supposed to feel. Doesn't quite ring true to me.

Of course if there were some nasty evil group out there who wanted to start a war between two nations, they would now have an explicit goal for what incident to stage to trigger it.
I am of course thinking of al Qaeda and the faintest possibility they might stage an attack spectacular on US troops and frame Iran. Framing Iran wouldn't be hard, especially if the people looking into it are of a mind to look for reasons to blame Iran.
Something south and east of Baghdad, maybe a supply convoy or command group.

that Iran said, that Israel said, that Cheney said to Oman that the US might attack Iran... unsourced, unsubstantiated, speculative but do the Iranians believe it?
Iran is never far from U.S. news headlines. Nuclear threats, unfair elections, captive reporters, a lack of religious freedom, all seem to demand that we do something. But what is to be done?
Iraq denies reports Israeli Jets exercising deployment to Iraqi airfields in preparation for Iran strike... PS rhetoric is heating up further

so.....the thought is the Iranians will behave rationally unlike the US?

Iran attacks close the the end of Bush's term.

Bush asserts some sort of warpowers nonsense to stay president.

America dissolves.

I'm thinking that if it was the right ten Americans - heck, make it twelve, I wouldn't be bothered at all.
