Weiner Twitter 'Prank': Lies of a "Panicked" Politician

This is incredible, from The Wall Street Journal!!

"I panicked and said I was hacked," said Mr. Weiner at the late afternoon news conference at a midtown Manhattan hotel.

What was he thinking?

See my previous post, giving him the benefit of doubt. So much for the dangers of hacking and computer privacy in this case, but it's all too real.

Excerpts:

New York Rep. Anthony Weiner on Monday admitted sending sexually suggestive photographs to women online but said he doesn't plan to resign from Congress because of the scandal.

"I panicked and said I was hacked," said Mr. Weiner at the late afternoon news conference at a midtown Manhattan hotel.

The admission comes after a conservative website posted new photos of the Queens Democrat and another website claimed to have sexually explicit messages sent to a woman from a Facebook account.

Last week, a sexually suggestive photograph .... was sent from the congressman's Twitter account to a female college student in Seattle. Mr. Weiner, who is married, denied that he sent the photo but said it was possible it was a picture of him--raising new questions and generating front-page ridicule in his hometown.

The congressman said in response to the initial allegation that his personal account was hacked, yet he has vacillated in his response to the controversy, refusing to talk about it one day, talking about it for hours the next, and then vanishing from the public eye again.

Over the weekend, he canceled planned appearances in Wisconsin and in New York, as the issue continues to dominate conversation in political circles.

...

Even before the new photos, Mr. Weiner struggled to explain himself, despite a well-earned reputation as a master of media appearances. First, he brushed off the issue as a bad joke by a prankster. Then he cursed out a reporter who pressed him on the matter. Then he did a series of interviews in which he suggested the person depicted in the first photograph could be him, but could have been doctored or manipulated.

More like this

"I panicked and said I was hacked," said Mr. Weiner at the late afternoon news conference at a midtown Manhattan hotel.

"Somebody found out so I lied about it."

A possible response would have been to start talking about some substantive issue, and offer the line "Is my penis really more important than the 15% unemployment rate?""

*sighs*
Well someone has to say it
LOL! Weiner.
