In which the younger Free-Ride offspring offers a visual representation of Skullcrusher Mountain.

The younger Free-Ride offspring's admiration for and appreciation of the work of Jonathan Coulton continues unabated.

In fact, JoCo songs have become the subject of painstaking drawings that the younger Free-Ride hopes Mr. Coulton might encounter while Googling himself (as one does).

The latest offering is the younger Free-Ride offspring's conception of Skullcrusher Mountain (lyrics here):

The level of detail is impressive. Maybe even a little disturbing. But I will admit to being quite taken with the half-pony, half-monkey monster:

For those who didn't already know:

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you

But I get the feeling that you don't like it

What's with all the screaming?

You like monkeys, you like ponies

Maybe you don't like monsters so much

Maybe I used too many monkeys

Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?

Imagine how excited I am that Mother's Day is coming.

On our drive to the Monterey Peninsula last night, la familia Free-Ride listened to (most of) the new Jonathan Coulton album JoCo Looks Back. (We skipped a few songs whose subject matter and lyrics were deemed "too mature" for the audience in the back seat.) The Free-Ride offspring had some prior…
In pondering the effects of nature versus nurture, the Free-Ride parents have become painfully aware that a large part of their offspring's environment is provided by the kids at school. This is how the sprogs came to be aware of the existence of The Disney Channel, whose offering seem to grate on…
The younger Free-Ride offspring's kindergarten class has been discussing rabbits for the last week or so. I can only hope the high school kids have been discussing the molecular structure of theobromine (the main alkaloid in chocolate) and working out the phase of matter of the interior of Peeps…
Dr. Free-Ride: Hey, how was Nature Study today? Younger offspring: We went on a nature walk. Dr. Free-Ride: What kind of nature did you see? Younger offspring: We didn't see any. Dr. Free-Ride: A nature walk without any nature? Younger offspring: Uh huh. Dr. Free-Ride: Isn't that just a walk? In…

I know it's not intended, but isn't this a little sick appearing today?

Hehe! I once posted those lyrics on my blog and sitemeter told me that somebody had found my blog using the search words "Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you". Perhaps you'll be as lucky. ;-)

The young Free-Ride is a talented artist (with good taste, may I add).

Regarding the last comment, is the young Free-Ride familiar with Mother's Day Song by frequent JoCo co-conspirators Paul and Storm? If so, you might hope there's not too much disturbing detail on the pictures in your Mother's Day card.
