I am not a Nerd

I am nerdier than 62% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

Janet has a declared a nerd-off, and all the ScienceBlogs bloggers are bragging about their nerdiness. They're showing off scores on nerd quizzes. As you can see I'm not so nerdy (compared to the other bloggers here). My standing as a "Low-Rank Nerd" might qualify me for excommunication from the ScienceBlogs society. I'm a remedial programmer. I have a mediocre understanding of the periodic table. I was never into Star Trek, reading books, or playing Dungeons and Dragons. I like sports.

While I may not be a nerd, I do have a surprise for you below the fold.

I am (or rather was) a geek. You see, I was raised in circus family, and I rose to some prominence in the sideshow. I did the usual bit of swallowing swords, eating fire, and impaling my skin with various sharp objects. Then, for my closing number, I would bite the head off of a live chicken.

You may have me beat when it comes to nerdiness, but I am the geekiest geek at ScienceBlogs.

I don't know how many of my readers saw this, but last week someone decided to have a hotornot contest for the ScienceBloggers. But it was based on pictures placed on technorati, and since I don't have a picture there, I was left out of the field of entries; I'm not the least bit disappointed by…
My previous claims of geekiness were in jest. And if that wasn't clear to you, do you understand anything? Anyway, I defined nerds as book smart, dweebs as socially awkward, and dorks as nerdy dweebs (or dweeby nerds). Geeks to me are sideshow acts (freaks) that bite the heads off of live chickens…
Well Janet has decreed a nerd-off, and I think I'm game to compete (albeit a little late). The truth is, is that I am a nerd at so many levels, whether this gauged by my application to the Super Friends, wearing t-shirts with Epithelial Cell Barbies on my chest, or owning a life size cardboard cut…
Smarting from her failure to crack the top 1000 in the science blogger hot-or-not contest, Janet has declared a Nerd-off, in which us geeks, dorks, nerds, and poindexters compete to see who is the King or Queen of the pocket-protector crowd. I think I should get bonus points for bragging about it a…

I got a 62 as well, but I don't think I'm geeky.

Odd that I'm a low-ranking nerd when I spend most of my day writing Lisp code trying to finish my Comp Sci doctoral thesis. I think the test is skewed toward those who work in wet labs...
