What City Are You?

This is another in a long line of on-line quiz silliness.

You Are New York

Cosmopolitan and sophisticated, you enjoy the newest in food, art, and culture.
You also appreciate a good amount of grit - and very little shocks you.
You're competitive, driven, and very likely to succeed. (GrrlScientist note: um, yeah, whatever you say)

Famous people from New York: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Tupac Shakur, Woody Allen

What other possibilities are there? So far, I found Austin, Boston, and Miami. Oh, and Los Angeles.

This week, the bath-night conversation turned to energy. If you prefer to listen to the sprogs, what with the splishing of the bathwater and their American accents, you can download the audio file. (Actually, owing to the length of the conversation, this week it's just me and the younger Free-…

Annual sales revenue in the nation's restaurant industry tops $515 billion, but few of the 10.3 million workers in the industry earn a living wage. Those are the findings released today of comprehensive surveys of working conditions for 1,700 restaurant workers employed in Washington DC, Miami…

It's funny, they ask "what part of the US do you like the best," and list the answer "the west coasts." Happy to know there is more than one west coast, 'cause the PNW coast is f'ing beautiful. Where the hells is the other one? But I got "Boston," and yet I'm so not smart enough to be an elitist snob.

Where do you find these things? I got Vegas, "Wild and uninhibited, you enjoy all of life's vices. You're a total hedonist, especially with sex, gambling, and drinking. You shine brightly every night, but you do the ultimate walk of shame each morning."

Jamie, I got the same thing. I am a Washington native (the STATE, not the city) by a few generations... and yet they also put me in Boston. Huh?

coturnix, I'm Austin too...

as a native of washington (the STATE), i was surprised to be New York. but even when i was a kid, people told me i should live in NYC, for reasons that i still don't understand. but i will admit to a certain .. jealousy .. of Caio de Gaia .. i would like to be vegas, too. maybe my life would be better if i was more outgoing.

and yeah, seattle should be included in that quiz. i am curious; what do you suppose the profile for a seattle person would be?

Here is a Seattle person that got Austin. My brother is living there, so I studiously avoided Austin schools for grad school (I didn't want to invade his terf). Austin is a nice city, but I'm going to end up in Ann Arbor, I think.

I initially got Las Vegas, but then changed the results and got New York. I don't like cities that close early, but it's not because I'm outgoing, but because I'm a night owl. I expected to get New York, because I'm cosmopolitan to the point of rootlessness, and because I'm fairly sophisticated and, sadly, often pretend to be a lot more sophisticated than I really am.

I got Austin. "A little bit country, a little bit rock and roll. You're totally weird and very proud of it. Artistic and freaky, you still seem to fit in ...in your own way."

Interesting. I put in that I liked the west "coasts" and ended up with Austin.

Austin... should I be proud, embarrased, mistified? The only city of the US where I've ever been was Santa Fe (twice), unless you count the airports of Denver and LA. I could only guess, when choosing New England as my favourite part of the US, and got sent to Texas. Intriguing.

I am BOSTON??!! I said I like barbecue and that my favorite place is the West Coast. What gives?

I'm Boston, even though I like the west coast and Mexican food?
