What Kind of Writer Are You?

You Should Be A Poet

You craft words well, in creative and unexpected ways.
And you have a great talent for evoking beautiful imagery...
Or describing the most intense heartbreak ever.
You're already naturally a poet, even if you've never written a poem.

If this online quiz is accurate (doubtful), it would go a long way towards explaining why I cannot find a paying job doing anything at all because it effectively labels me as a misfit (have you known a poetic scientist? Have any of you known a poet who was employed as a poet?)

Okay, I showed you my results, now you can show me yours, and you have to tell me if you think your results are accurate, too.

Since half the blogs on the net seem to be making lists of their favorite movie quotes, I thought I'd add some of mine. Some movies are just goldmines of great lines - Caddyshack, almost any Kevin Smith movie, Bull Durham. Herewith some of my absolute favorites, without the title of the movie so…
Another kind comment from a student reader on one of the older biomes posts: Thanks for posting this! It really helped me get some info for MY "Tropical Dry Forest Biome" project for biology class. I couldn't find any info at the library or on any other sites! So I thank goodness this was here....…

So, remember back in December, I wrote a post about a Cantor crank who had a Knol page supposedly refuting Cantor's diagonalization? This week, I foolishly let myself get drawn into an extended conversation with him in comments. Since it's a comment thread on an old post that had been inactive…

Because all poets sit around in their underwear in doorways showing off their long legs and waiting for inspiration to strike. Sheesh.

You Should Be a Film Writer

i was irritated by a number of the answers in that many could have been chosen. i have to say, the description for "Film Writer" and the idea i have of what film writers do are diametrically-opposed... however, given the limitation of ONLY one button being active, their ideal of what a film writer is rings true...

to me, anyway... :)

oh, and if i'd known poets sit around in their underwear showing off their long legs, i'd have talked to someone about changing my major decades ago... :)

Have any of you known a poet who was employed as a poet?

A (small) number of musicians come to mind. Neil Fallon (Clutch), is a good example (for giving a few clever nods to evolution in "Never Be Moved."

I am super nerd!

***You Should Be a Science Fiction Writer***

Your ideas are very strange, and people often wonder what planet you're from.
And while you may have some problems being "normal," you'll have no problems writing sci-fi.
Whether it's epic films, important novels, or vivid comics...
Your own little universe could leave an important mark on the world!

Another scifi writer here. I doubt the quiz's author would be so quick to assign that role to me if they had ever been inflicted with any of my science fiction writing. I make Robert Heinlein look like the master of 3 dimensional characterization.

why am i the only poet in a crowd of scifi writers? well, at least i didn't end up being a (scream) romance writer! GAH!

I came out as a Joke Writer. Or was that a joke of a writer?

"You're totally hilarious, and you can find the humor in any situation. Whether you're spouting off zingers, comebacks, or jokes about life...You usually can keep a crowd laughing, and you have plenty of material. You have the makings of a great comedian - or comedic writer.

How can they tell that from 5 questions? Probably just because I said that I liked to make people laugh and that I would write a hilarious tale that was close to true life. They didn't have an option for the kind of story I want to write. That was the closest.

That's got to be one of the less satisfactory quizzes I've done in a while.

Of course, I am incredibly hilarious - Laurel and Hardy humor; sort of the person who just knocked themselves out with a rake!

Science-fiction writer. Yeah, right. Was the poet even wearing underwear? "The grave is a fine and private place/But none,I fear, do there embrace [To His Coy Mistress]."

It seems quite possible to be both poet and scientist, especially if your in the field for the periodic feeling fo wonder and awe.

I remember I used to explain myself to people by saying: "I have the mind of a poet and the heart of an engineer..."

Oh, well. Sci fi writer too, which is probably more or less accurate. But the quiz is really rather too simplistic. Among the topics presented, I would be interested in exploring most of them. But you're confined to a narrow range.

That said, I like the alternate, what-if explorations, because you can do anything at all, including dragging in any of the other themes :)
