The Cult of Bush

I dunno about you, but this streaming video is just a wee bit scary to me. By the way, can anyone understand what the older woman was saying and what language it is?

Bill Maher showed up on Scarborough Country yesterday to explain his problems with organized religion. Since I can't improve on his eloquent and spot-on comments, I will simply reproduce them beneath the fold. Enjoy! BILL MAHER, HOST, "REAL TIME": I've always had it out for religion, for very…
tags: Religion is Bullshit, George Carlin, humor, comedy, streaming video As usual these days, I was awake until the sun came up. So in the wee hours of the morning, I learned that one of my favorite people, George Carlin, died. I've always loved George Carlin even though I've never had the…
I want to share this amusing video with all of you, particularly with one very special reader, Joe [surname elided to protect him from his stupidity], who was so moved by this piece that I wrote that he has been emailing repeatedly to let me know that I am a poorly-educated liar. In fact, Joe was…
Democratic Senator Barack Obama has released a new book. In it, he attempts to be the Democratic Party's next Joe Lieberman. This is a bad thing. From the Chicago Sun-Times: "We Democrats are just, well, confused," Obama writes. He goes on. "Mainly, though, the Democratic Party has become the…

a lot of people in "jesus camp" were Pentecostal, so she might have just been doing glossolia?

Its called "praying in tongues", and it's gibberish.

Its taken from a passage in the bible where it said the holy spirit came to the apostles after Jesus died and gave them the power to speak foreign languages. The same passage talked about immunity to snake bites, hence the snake handling.

My mother does the speaking in tongues. At least I know its because she is bipolar type I with psychotic elements. I don't why these other people do it.

That is one hella scary video! I especially liked the part about how he'd surrounded himself with "spirit-filled people." Spirit...is that what they're calling it these days?

His false Christianity is one of the most offensive things about him of all. I have been privileged enough to know a couple of Real Christians in my own life. Gordon, the site supervisor of the museum I interned at, has adopted several children from African countries and spends much of his vacation time each year in Africa working with interdenominational Christian orgs to do things like build wells and plant crops (he also has a master's degree in horticulture). Cindy, a friend of mine through work, is a Hospice volunteer, runs a grief support group, and is a co-founder and key volunteer of a soup kitchen.

And you know what? Both of them are very humble about their activities. I heard about Gordon's good works third-hand, through another co-worker, and I heard about Cindy's just because I asked her what she likes to do in her spare time. Neither of them tries to force their faith down anyone else's throat. I'm willing to bet that they both want to protect women from cervical cancer, too.

I'm pretty sure i've heard that tongue before... sounds very much like the "languages" spoken in star wars...

Perhaps greedo or jabbah's spirit (it was a long time ago after all....) are speaking through her....
