Great image! When the killdeer are trying to distract you and keep you away from their nests, this is what they are protecting. Now I get it! It's because they are too cute for their own good! Yay!

Also: Awwwwwww.
Really. Fucking. Cute.
One of the pleasures of bike riding is coming across animal life that is completely missed in a car. In May I passed a killdeer nest several times that was along the edge of a fairly clean ditch. By the first of June I was able to spot the peeps making their way in and around the ditch. A small gift to me from the cosmos.
Man, don't get too close to their breeding ground, though. I had one come up pretty much to my shoelaces and give me a right telling off.

If there is anything cuter than a baby shorebird, I haven't seen it yet.
Great shot! Thanks for sharing.
