Many Thanks for the Birdday Wishes (Fishes?)

I just want to thank everyone again -- my readers, PZ (whom I think of as family) and his readers, and my fellow SciBlings -- for popping in to wish me a happy birthday. Your kindness has served to cheer me up since I have been having a rough time of it recently; so rough that it has been a battle just to get out of bed (one of the many perils of bipolar disorder). I am still feeling incredibly sad for reasons that completely elude me (I do have wacky brain chemistry afterall) but peeking in at my blog today and reading your comments and email (from all over the world!) has been like unwrapping dozens and dozens of gifts. You guys are the bestest ever. You make me feel so lucky: moochas smoochas to you all.

I would also like to thank those peeps who have sent me gifts: a small, portable hard drive (a nice addition to my not-portable, but much loved, hard drive), my very own copy of PhotoShop (along with a book that helps me decipher this latest version, which is useful since I haven't had PhotoShop access for six years -- yikes!), and a year's subscription to NetFlix! I am sure other goodies are awaiting my discovery in the next few days, so I want to thank you in advance if I haven't mentioned your gifts yet (and yes, I will mention them here, when I find them).

Despite everything, I know I am very lucky to have all of you, always looking out for me and helping me along when I need it. I am grateful beyond words to all of you.

I have been pinching myself for the past three weeks for two reasons: first I have good news to share with you and second, I was afraid that my good news was a dream that I'd awaken from. My good news is that I just sent off a book review to be published in Nature magazine. Nature? you say .. Do…

Happy birthday GrrlScientist. I'm a Pharyngulite regular, and linked your blog to a new poster due to her love for birds. I remembered your love for our avian cousins. She found your blog fascinating. May there be many more anniversaries of your birth.

^^ Happy Birdday! And best fishes (but no dishes), too! *big wet slimy octentacle hug*

^^ Bipolar? Well it's a good start, but I'd like to see you working on tripolar, at least.

My wish is... That you only ever feel like not getting out of bed because you are having too much fun in bed.

Take care.

Oh, she's got that off to an art. Happy, sad, and weird.

That you only ever feel like not getting out of bed because you are having too much fun in bed.

Blogging?

Happy, happy, happy birthday, Grrl!!! Hope you had a good one. And, as you can see, you have many friends out here in cyberspace who care for you a lot.

Happy, sad, and weird.

^^ That's what I like to hear. I think everyone needs a good dose of happy, sad and weird. Who wants to be "normal"? What's that supposed to mean, anyway? And if it was so great, how come so many "normal" people spend so much money on pharmaceuticals to simulate happy, sad and weird?

Blogging?

^^ Is that what they call it nowadays? Anyway, shhh, what happens in the bedroom, stays in the bedroom.

I apologise if this is too flip, GrrlScientist. I don't pretend to understand how you must feel. But I can grasp that it isn't just today's weather but the ongoing heatwave or cold-spell that wears at you. And explaining to everyone wearing parkas why you're running around in shorts and a t. I imagine that gets tiring too.

Take care.

Happy Birthday! My first time visiting your spot. Love it! I was sent here by PZ. I'll be a regular from now on.

Your next assignment: have a happy year!

Cheers,

A Chelated Happy Birdday to you, Grrl, and many bloggy returns!

Oh no, I'm late! Well, a belated happy birthday to you Grrl!
To commemorate the event, I have a song for you:

This is your birthday song,
It isn't very long!

Never forget that you're an amazing person and a great blogger. Best wishes for the coming year and all those after it.

Many Happy Birthday wishes again! You are a wonderful and gifted person who deserves a joyous and good year.

I well understand the feeling sad for no discernible reason. I admire your ability to take care of your birds and to blog despite being at a low ebb.

Hope you had a lovely bird-day!

Sorry I'm late with my bird-day wishes, but I was busy last weekend, and since then I've been having problems connecting to the internet and I'm only just catching up with over a week's worth of scienceblogs.

I well understand the feeling sad for no discernible reason. I admire your ability to take care of your birds and to blog despite being at a low ebb.
