Over the months I've been blogging at The Intersection, I've shared a little bit about myself here... Readers may remember I'm drummer in a girl band, have a strange affinity for sea cucumbers, and a habit of pulling crazy stunts as a radio personality. What you may not know is it also happens I can legally preside over weddings. Just another little thing I do.
This past Sunday, family, friends, and community from all over the world and all walks of life converged in the misty mountains of western Massachusetts for three days of celebrating the marriage of my big brother, Seth, and new sister, Jen. And best of all, your resident blogger had the honor of officiating the ceremony.
You see, Seth is my hero. While we both seek to improve the world, he acts at the local level by working on the ground to support the people in his community. Seth is an educator and inspires his students to live what they believe based on the principles of justice, freedom, and peace. Not just on paper, but in practice - several of them were there participating in the wedding as testimony. Jen, his wife and my beautiful new sister, is his equal in every way. Now I understand it's common for a little sister to be in awe of her big bro, but throughout the weekend, everyone I met seemed to have a story about how these two touched their lives. So now officially united as partners, I can't even imagine what's possible... but sure look forward to finding out!
So to Seth and Jen: Keep dreaming together because you're a constant source of hope for a better future on this little planet of ours. Congratulations and Love to my Big Brother and Big Sister!
And no, we didn't eat sea bass.

Curiously I can also officiate at weddings. It's a result of some very odd circumstances but a happy ending none the less.
Thanks for sharing this, Sheril.
Your brother teaches at the kind of school I love to visit.
Teaching is not only noble but also exceptionally difficult. The audience you are trying to reach is always changing, and the really important moments appear almost inconsequential at the time. I would guess that most of us are who we are because of experiencing that one-to-one connection between student and teacher.
After he comes back to the real world, please share the link attached to my name with him.
Thanks Fred, I will ;)
Shez,
Thank you for sharing the link and story. Makes me think of the outdoors camps I went to when younger, learning about nature, making dream catchers...
Our Sweet Sheril,
First, dad and I are, and always have been so very proud of you for being such a special person in our lives and in this world. And on this important and uniquely wonderful weekend, you proved us right again by marrying our equally wonderful Seth to our new daughter Jen. Everything you write, we know first-hand and is true. Seth, like you, is always trying to make this troubled world a better place, and now we have our new daughter, Jen, who is terrific and shares the same journey and path.
We could not have imagined how their intricate, loving plans would come together in such a heartfelt, truly personal and beautiful experience.
We will remember this special time all our lives. We are very happy and proud.
We love all of you,
Mom & Dad
Sheril,
Having met Seth and Jen and listened to you tell me about them, I agree that they are exceptional people. I wish them all the happiness in the world. From the pictures, it looks like it was a lovely wedding. Congratulations to you all!
They are very nice photos. The top one has a vaguely Narnia-esque feel (in a good way!).
Are the other members of your band scientists too?
Y'know, you should organize one of those "We Are the World" things consisting only of female scientist rocker girls. Raise funds for research. Pardis Sabeti, the human geneticist who studies recent human evolution, sings and plays guitar in a rock band.
Or if you couldn't get enough together to do a fundraiser, at least form one of those "superbands" like A Perfect Circle.
Dear Seth and Jen,
We weren't with you physically at the wedding, but we were with you guys psychologically all weekend.
We are in Wyoming now. A bit too far for us to attend. But the blogs I read and the pics we see say it all. Just beautiful! We feel like we attended.
When people brag and ask you what you make (for a living), make sure to tell them " I make childen's character ".
Much love to a wonderful couple! We wish you a life of joy and happiness.
Sincerely,
Fred, Lenore, Josh, and Shari ( Chico and Monkey , too)
i foillowed the "little bit about myself" link and read your 3.14 interview.

Sheril,
As Jen's parents and now in Seth's official role to us as our Son in Law we are extatic about their marriage to each other.
We have watched their love grow for each other over these past 4 years and have felt as we continue to that they are so very well matched in their values, and great admiration and love for each other.
Their community of friends obviously feel a great magnetism between themselves and them as indeed Jen & Seth share in kind with each of them.
The efforts of their community of friends to build this wedding was awesome and will remain in memory forever.
It is one of the richest experiences that we have shared and we see your journey together as only moving from strength to strength.
We take pride in your "coupledom" and
love you both so very much
Sheril,
You amaze me! Your list of accomplishments goes on and on and to hear now that you married your brother and Jen is fascinating. I loved reading your blog and learning so much more about the girl who grew up next-door to me. I wish I could've been at the wedding. It sounded amazing and the pics are beautiful! I'm so happy for Seth, Jen and both of the families. To Sheril and the new happy couple...keep making the world a better place!!
