COLOSSAL SQUID!

i-7ac80d13830c6a872cf606b805e3f156-squid2.jpg'On Wednesday, a 30 foot long, 900-pound colossal squid hauled up from the Antarctic last January will be studied by a team of scientists... but the catch is, they'll only have FOUR hours!'

[Note, the awesomeness of the colassal squid has no bearing on where I stand in the Great Marine Invertebrate Wars. Echinoderms Rule!]

Welcome to the eleventh and by far the most important, although surprisingly the most poorly formatted, installment of Carnival of the Blue. Before we get down to the watery, salty, and sometimes rubbery details, we wanted to take a moment to ponder the significance of Zooillogix's role as host of…
In a rare treat on the usually quiet and contemplative Island of Doubt, I now bring you the 12th edition of the Carnival of the Blue, a celebration of all things wet and wonderful. Islands are only islands, after all, if they're surrounded by water. Hong Kong, for example, is what it is because of…

It was a long, hard, and tumultuous battle, but the clash of the titans that began here at The Intersection--that will go down in science blogging history as the Great Marine Invertebrate Wars--has ended.  And yes readers, our own fighting echinoderm has emerged victorious!  The final showdown…

So cool! I can't wait to watch on Discovery Channel!

You know who doesn't love giant squids/octopi/mollusks?

Vertebrates. (In particular, check out the shark in the video.)

I think this would be perfect for a scientific game show. Something with lots of buzzers. "I'll take gut contents for 500!" ZZZZZT! "I'm sorry, that was not a myctophid skeleton, but a sardine."

Imagine all the calamari! ;>

This. Is. Awesome.

What they need is a bunch of beefy rival scientists who are trying to get in the way of the investigation. Like on Gladiators.
