McCain Suspends His Campaign

So uh, anyone else besides Letterman and I wondering why Sarah Palin can't take over? Because that's sort of, you know, the whole VP role...

Sept. 24 (Bloomberg) -- John McCain made a surprise announcement that he was suspending his presidential campaign and called on Democratic rival Barack Obama to postpone their first debate until Congress hammers out a plan to steady the financial markets.

Obama rebuffed McCain, saying it's ``more important than ever'' for the candidates to tell voters how they would deal with the crisis. He said they can work with Congress while campaigning. ``It is going to be part of the president's job to deal with more than one thing at once,'' Obama said.

Just the salient points. McCain does not want to spread the wealth around. Obama wants to cut the 15 billion dollar subsidy to insurance companies. Obama wants to invest in higher education.
Apparently, Matt Stoller, like the Mad Biologist, wants to hear a dog whistle from Obama too (italics mine):
A lot of people think the debate was pretty even. Obama supporters liked Obama, McCain supporters liked McCain, I assume (that is utterly obvious). But what matters is the effect on uncommitted voters.

I can't believe it! Katie Couric must have way more money than Letterman.

Once you've seen the Katie Couric interview with Palin, you know why they can't put her on instead.

Frankly, I'm wondering who Obama will debate on Friday. On 'Have I got News for You' some years ago, they replaced a cancelled guest (a politician) with a tub of lard. Cardboard cut-out time I think....

Total political positioning as McCain's poll numbers are going down.
I absolutely agree with Obama that both the financial crisis and the Presidental debate can be dealt with at the same time. A President has to deal with many things at the same time. The public desperately needs to hear how the next President will help bring this country through this critical money mess.
Sarah Palin is both an embarrassment and a disaster, as exhibited in the Katie Couric interview yesterday. No wonder why McCain's people are tightly guarding her mouth.
