Bloggingheads and Coast-to-Coast: Both Get A Serious Does Of E. coli Tomorrow!

Just a quick note to say that, if all goes according to plan, I will be appearing on the Internets on bloggingheads tomorrow, and on the radio show Coast-to-Coast in the wee hours of Saturday night/Sunday morning. In both cases I'll be talking about--you guessed it--Microcosm. I'll be swilling coffee Saturday night because I'll be talking from 2 am to 5 1 to 2 am EST Sunday. If you're not quite such a night owl, I believe they'll archive it on their site.

A couple other Microcosm-related notes: Discover Magazine gives a nod: "With Microcosm, this award-winning science writer has turned out an illuminating biography of one of biology's most influential--and underappreciated--players."

Meanwhile, Larry Moran is going over the book with a fine-tooth comb and catching at least one mistake. Ouch. I knew I should have been more careful about how fast chromosomes replicate. Something to fix in the next printing...

I'm in a celebratory mood. Microcosm is published today. In my mind, I can see the books moving out of warehouses onto trucks, off to book stores and front door steps. This morning I read a great review from Mykola Bilokonsky at Newsvine. ("What are you waiting for?" he asks.) And tonight I'll be…
I'm using the Internet connection of some neighbor who's name is "linksys" because my 6 year old wireless router died this morning. I have had a GI disease of some kind for the last few days which has made it impossible to eat pain meds. Ouch ouch ouch. Tomorrow, I get oral surgery. I blew all…
Just a reminder that I'll be at MoonBase ConFusion at the Detroit-Troy Marriott in Troy, Michigan this coming weekend. I don't think it's too late to get a room, and you can definitely still sign up to attend! I'm committed to do a reading Friday evening, panels on "Remaking Humanity" and "…
So: Scienceblogs interviewed me. How cool is that? I say stuff like this: What's your greatest habitual annoyance? The slow middle elevator in my building. What's your most marked characteristic? I'm a recovering workaholic. What's your fatal flaw? Aging. What would you like to be? A professional…

Isn't Bloggingheads where you go at it with someone who disagrees with you? If so, is your opponent going to be with someone who thinks E. coli sucks? Or are you going to tackle some of the larger issues.

Some of that one error is in flipping between talking about DNA replication time and cell division time. Early on I almost viewed the two interchangeably, but quickly learned first-hand that it wasn't that simple. Bet, hey, that's what being popular enough to get multiple printings is for!

I'll help. Since I didn't win a copy, I'll go and buy one.
