Marriage News from Massachusetts

As several of you know very well, Kate and I were married five years ago in Massachusetts, near where her family lives. Which, of course, means that our marriage was totally cheapened and rendered meaningless by today's vote against an anti-gay-marriage amendment to the state constitution.

Or-- wait, let me check-- no, no it wasn't. Nope, pretty much still happily married, and happy to be married. And probably happier than ever to have been married in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Some horse trading was apparently required to get the votes lined up, but the Legislature eventually managed to do the right thing. Good show, guys.

Now, get with the program, New York.

The White House has been kind enough to put the text of President Bush's speech advocating the "Marriage Protection Amendment" yesterday on their webpage. And I feel fine. But it seems as though yesterday's official start of legal gay marriage in Massachusetts has provoked much wailing and gnashing of teeth among the religious right. This is to be expected, of course, but I can't be the only one who is actually enjoying watching all of this feverish…
Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has an op-ed piece in today's Wall Street Journal entitled "One Man, One Woman: A citizen's guide to protecting marriage." It's a perfect example of the wild leaps of logic inherent in arguments against gay marriage. He starts out with a statement that he appears…
James Dobson has written a commentary for CNN's webpage on gay marriage that is amusing both in its lack of logic and its misuse of statistics. The statistics come first, as he is claiming that the media provided "cover" for the Senate voting down the Marriage Protection Amendment by claiming that…

Come on, Chad, you hypocrit.

Don't you want to protect gays from the sanctity of divorce?

Don't you want to protect gays from the sanctity of divorce?

Heh.
No, you've got it all backwards-- we're hoarding divorce for the straight people. Because, you know, it's so much fun...

I am a little confused- I understood that anyone can get married anywhere? There is no law of any kind saying otherwise.

Now, get with the program, New York.

Absolutely. I was *bitterly* disappointed in the New York decision for at least three different reasons, some of which it would not be professional to discuss. I hope that the legislature can remedy that.

Dave @ #3: You can't be serious.

Why- are you ?
