Thursday Baking Blogging 090111

Our next-door neighbors are awesomely nice, and helped Kate move all the breakable stuff in the back yard out of harm's way before the big storm this past weekend (since I left town before it was clear that Albany would get hit). as a thank-you, Kate and SteelyKid baked cookies for them. But you don't have to just watch-- you can help, too:

(Seriously, that's what she's saying, here: "You can help, too, Daddy.")

A couple more pictures showing the mixing process are below the fold. Kate measured everything out, and controlled the mixer, but SteelyKid was in charge of carefully adding ingredients a little bit at a time:

As you can see, this is serious business, requiring intense concentration. And she was very good-- the vast majority of the flour actually made it into the mixer....

As previously noted, I was in Denver for a long weekend with friends from college. I spent a fair bit of time checking the projected storm track and airport closings, but they kept saying Albany was going to stay open until late Saturday, when there wasn't time to do anything about it. Yesterday…
Another long photo-a-day gap, because the last week was crazy in a bunch of ways. The weather has slewed wildly between winter and spring; Kate had to go to The City to argue a case leaving me solo-parenting the sillyheads; and I've been fighting the onset of a rotten cold. That last has involved a…
So, when last I posted an update on kid stuff, we were about to embark for a week in Mexico with family. As you would expect, I have a huge pile of pictures from this, but most of the cute-kid shots feature the kids with their cousins from Illinois, and I try to avoid posting photos of other people…
We're very happy with Chateau Steelypips, and we especially enjoy our back yard: Of course, it's not without its problems, as you can see in that picture (and another that I'll put below the fold). The yard is pleasantly private and shady, thanks to a row of maples along the right side, and an…

Must have missed the announcement, but it's clear you're working on a Mark II version. You did so well with the first cut, I'm happy you're doing it again.

Great first kids help to guarantee younger siblings.

She was very good at putting the flour mix into the mixer, because she didn't have to deal with full measuring cups. "Helping" me take the measuring cups out of the canisters to be leveled off, there's where we got flour and sugar all over.

Great!
Its yummy!!!
Thanks for sharing.

While I am entirely in favor of raising feminist children, I think this particular offer was more "helping bake is fun!" than "cooking is non-gender-specific work."

And yes, of course Chad helped, but only briefly because it is really not a three-person job and in accordance with our usual post-dinner division of labor.
