Music & Life: An Alan Watts Animation by Trey Parker and Matt Stone
This post is copyrighted. If you read this on a KU network, or any other copyrighted material, you just forfeited your network access. At least, that's how I read the new policy the University of Kansas announced: A brief notice on the University of Kansas ResNet site explains the university's new position very succinctly. "If you are caught downloading copyrighted material, you will lose your ResNet privileges forever," reads the notice. "No second notices, no excuses, no refunds. One violation and your ResNet internet access is gone for as long as you reside on campus." The thing is,…

I got hit by a mutant meme; I don't remember who tagged me. I'm not terribly into these meme things, but I don't pass up excuses to post recipes. So below the fold are four recipes that I've created: seared duck breast with ancho chile sauce; saffron fish stew; smoked salmon hash; and spicy collard greens. Seared Duck Breast with Ancho-Chile Sauce This is one of the best recipes I've ever created. It's perfect with a good california Zinfandel. Get some really good, large duck breasts. Marinate them for an hour or two in red wine. Put about 2 cups of chicken stock into a small pot…
So what do you think of the snazzy new banner?
I got my lovely Olympus C4040-Z in 2002, and got it second-hand. It works beautifully, and I've never needed to take it in for servicing. Olympus isn't paying me to say that, and I don't consider it terribly exceptional. I do find it surprising that Canon would say this about the camera which took the leaked photos of the new Harry Potter book: "From what we know, the device is one of the original Rebel cameras, probably a 350D, and given that they've been out for three years, it's likely the owner would have had it cleaned or repaired in that time." First, that Canon would volunteer to…

So I noticed today that ScienceBlogs does not have a wikipedia entry! What's up with that? Ridiculous! I felt it to be my solemn duty to start one for the world! But clearly I'm not really supposed to be creating it since I guess I sorta, kinda 'work' for Seed Media. But anyway! Please head over there and help fill it up with some exciting content! Your favorite stories, information about all the great blogs, how you met the love of your life there, etc. I also wouldn't object if someone created an Omni Brain entry ;) (I would feel a little worse actually creating that one myself).…

So that 8-facts thing is going around, and I got tagged. I've stalled long enough that everyone I read was already tagged, and I'm sure you've all seen it by now, so I'm not going to waste time repeating the rules or tagging anyone else. 1. One of my favorite things to do is cook. In fact, during grad school, when I was particularly frustrated with my (then) advisor, I considered dropping out of grad school and opening a restaurant. 2. It took three advisors for my to do my PhD. I started grad school with an offer to work with one professor who did network protocol…
Well... I'm not sure if you all noticed... but my posting has been lacking lately. It's been for a great reason though. I'm on vacation in the Florida Keys. Beaches, boats, and leather skin ;) We saw a great water spout the other day - of course my cell phone picture didn't turn out but this picture I found on the internet is nearly exactly what we saw. Pretty cool eh? According to Wikipedia: A waterspout is an intense columnar vortex (usually appearing as a funnel-shaped cloud) that occurs over a body of water and is connected to a cumuliform cloud. In the common form, it is a…
From Threadless. Maybe if Dr. Myers wears this, people will stop being so down on the cephalopods.
Apparently because we mentioned sex and death.
